everybody says “buy used” well in this economy a 3 year old model costs the same as a brand new car not to mention you get fart-infused seats and other garbage in the car. Atleast with a new car you can pop its cherry and use it according to your standards and not worry about some nig or spic redlining it before breaking it in

most people don't buy a new car they get a really stupid loan for a car they can barely afford and don't even need

>> No.55391415

quality dropped after covid
parts are becoming exceedingly specific to each model
most hobbyist(the best mechanics) will know older models better and have those parts you need because they were more common
almost all cars are designed to fail
some are not
check other thread or archives for most efficient cars to buy price/fuel wise

Most people have incredibly terrible credit and impulsive buying habits. The number of retards who make almost no money but take on absurd auto loans is incredible. Also, tons of people think they "deserve" a luxury vehicle or they "need" a truck because they might, maybe, possibly haul mulch once a year. That's where you get people voluntarily putting themselves into crippling debt because they are drooling retards.

Buying new isn't bad if you get an okay interest rate and you don't buy a fucking Mercedes C class or something like that. If you make okay money and buy a camry or a civic or something, you aren't doing something horrible. That said, interest rates are what fuck people.

Basically this. Most people buy cars which are literally 100% of their current networth, if not even more. And it's a massive social status for normalfags so they can't get anything basic or God forbid a work horse shitbox which gets the job done.

My car is getting old and I will probably be buying in the next year or two. 225k miles. I was looking at low mileage used vehicles and they are just as expensive as brand new. Unless something big in the market changes I'll probably buy new.

Nice digits OP. I generally buy new because, as you mentioned, the fart seats and stuff. I don’t get anything fancy though and trade in the old one and out some money down so the monthly payments are super affordable. I’ve never had an issue and this way I almost never have to worry about anything other than occasional maintenance.

true. You can even get an entire new seat if you are wary of old farts, you will still come out well ahead. Older Japanese vehicles tend to hold up pretty well, some of those older Ford Rangers seem pretty sturdy too. Brand-fagging over cars is the worst, doubly so if it's your only vehicle. Five speed, four cylinder is all most people need for commuting

Because the return on investment of a car is generally low. It’s also a necessary expense depending on where you live. You generally don’t condone buying basic necessities for more than they benefit you

Depending on the type of vehicle you’re buying and just the ‘market’ in general dealers have been pushing price premiums on top of msrp

In some cases the used prices are just likely following price demand spikes (think Honda or Toyota sedans and hybrids as an example)

Some models it’s stupid to go used 2-3 year old model selling for maybe 10% depreciation when it should really be 25-30% so going new is a better value if depreciation is just linear versus it falling off right away historically

Vehicles are pretty tough but I can’t see buying a high mileage truck or something unless you have good proof it’s maintained and used within the manufacturer’s limits else it’s just too risky imo if you could afford new

Going new as in there are other vehicles that still have a used premium but dealers aren’t moving them or successful in pushing premiums on those models so they either sell at msrp now or are even discounted a little from msrp

No, it's not interest rates that fuck people on buying cars it's mostly depreciation, maintenance, sales tax, trade-in loss, and insurance.

You buy a 60K car and pay maybe $3600 a year in interest but you are losing 20-30% of that 60K to depreciation, maintenance, and insurance in the first year alone.

Over a 5-year period it's said the average person who buys a new car will lose 100% of the original car's value to depreciation, maintenance, insurance, sales tax, trade ins, etc...

So yeah that 60K car actually costs you close to 12K/year before gas.

>> No.55393696

I bought a sub $20k car in cash, it has a 7 year warranty and fixed service costs. I calculated I would be ahead after about four years despite depreciation compared with my previous car that was eight years old and costing me thousands a year in servicing.

> 3 year old model
Because “buy used” doesn’t mean buy a 3 year old car with less than 10k miles on it you zoomer retard. When I tell people “buy used” I mean find a 10 year old Kia Rio or Buick with like 250k miles on it

>> No.55393795

>>55391415
It’s been like that for a while you dumb fucking zoomer. Things really started to fall apart after 2008. And it’s a mix of things causing this. Some of it has to do with planned obsolescence, some of it has to do with moving factories to mexico, some of it has to do with unions in the US getting gutted so factory workers are all niggers, and a lot of it has to do with new emissions standards.

Late model vehicles don’t need maintenance and repair work? Lol

I drive a used early 2010s Hyundai accent shitbox, my repairs so far have been 600 bucks for tires over the course of 3 years of driving it. How much is your car payment on your boring utility pickup or economy car per monthly basis you stupid idiot?

>> No.55393854

>>55393826
And you wouldn’t be sitting there calculating repairs if you had enough impulse control to get the car inspected by a mechanic for purchase. I knocked off a few hundred bucks for the timing belt labor right out the gate when negotiating the price of the car. If you’re calculating repair costs after you’ve already bought the car you’re doing it wrong
