I had the strangest idea that fuck, since we all use Bitcoin and crypto, what's stopping us from making a thread right here on /biz/ to gamble?

Well, we play games with the post numbers all the time. Have users post a public Bitcoin key to a wallet and draw their post numbers at the end of the thread. The man who made collections then divvies out prizes to the numbers drawn.

I dunno. That's my only problem right now. You can't trust any of you guys so playing a game here kinda hinges on some sort of loss model. Like, OP can't collect the plays unless he reimburses half of the total first or something.

I'll do it and cheat the bot. I know that's what you want to do, but I can do it for you and yoink all the money for me instead.

There's already smart contracts for gambling with VRF via chainlink so if we were to gamble on /biz/ we would be better off using a known and trusted contract and setting a timestamp so it can only be activated at x block to give people time to enter before someone pulls the lever.

Doesn't matter what the code says, whoever hosts it can manipulate it in real time.
This is the major stumbling block with Blockchains, they're sandboxed, can't get any real world info on them without an oracle.
What we need for the future of finance are non-sandboxed distributed databases that are compatible with all kinds of external data.
But your little gambling project is near impossible because every player would need special data in their name field, like a PKI output for instance, in order for the contract to be fed some information to link posters to their addresses. Even then I'm not sure how someone might exploit it or if jannies would start targeting you for using 4chins as a gambling instrument.
