Bought 13 boxes of Evolving Skies back in 2021 for $100 each, they're about $400 each now. TCG investing is based and frankly easy, just identify a good set usually based around nostalgia and chase cards, buy a bunch of sealed product and wait for 2-3 years. Easy 4x.

He buys a pack of cards and an expensive card in a shop with the cash.

Then he sells the card to the same shop for a small loss.

I don't think so, yugioh is reprinting and releasing 25th anniversary booster boxes for all of the OG sets this summer. reprints usually keep the OG card prices at bay. don't let that stop you from getting into it though, buy what you like

151 is definitely a great set to have, I only buy the japanese sets and cards though. sun and moon sets and singles have sky rocketed over the last few months, so I'd suggest getting any cards you want from that era now as they'll probably only go up steadily or quickly.
imo the sealed product has sailed for sun and moon and only the new product for below msrp or slightly above msrp is the right play. for singles, 6-18 months is a good time to buy after release. for sealed, 6-12 months is a good time to buy and let the hype prices for sets to go down to their lowest price.

pokemon is a pretty good base to start and offers the highest returns over time of all of the tcgs. I would recommend sealed over singles as singles are a gamble compared to sealed. lotr boxes could be a good play; tcgs are just kind of slow and boring until they spike in price over a few years

Are you trying to invest or just casual collecting? For casual collecting now is a great time to buy modern pokemon sealed and vintage mtg sealed. I don't think the SV sets are very investable and have buyer's remorse after buying SV base and paldea evolved. As for LOTR boxes, they're going to the moon and becoming scarece and right now is probably your last opportunity to buy (2 weeks ago was a better time). The only catch with them is they might collapse when the 1/1 ring is found.

I know this sounds stupid but invest in the singles. The sealed box is the etf, the single cards are the individual stocks. Those full art trainers are 1/300-480 chance pulls. When you factor in packs cost $3-4 then it takes the average ripper $900 minimum to acquire one full art trainer they are looking for. Of course along the way they'll find other value but ultimately most of it will be bulk. The meta doesn't matter for card prices in Pokemon only 10% of collectors actually play. Absolute rarity doesn't matter either cause there are tons of secret rainbow rares that are worth almost nothing because people like the original artwork.
