Why can't I just pick any courses I want in college and pay for the classes? The entire credit and major/minor system is retarded.

A pretty good college near me offers a Minor in Jewelry, Metals & Enameling and a Minor in Glassworks/Glassblowing. Why can't I just pick pick take one or both of those courses? Instead there's an entire credit system around it.

"Oh, you want to take a Minor course in Jewelry? First you need to take 10 other basic courses, plus you need to go pursue a Bachelors Degree in Ceramics or some other Art program."

I'm sure I could find some other private training, but it seems retarded the school is limiting itself by forcing you to take a bunch of bullshit classes that have nothing to do with what you actually want to learn about.

Because what you’re actually buying is a credential and not courses.

I never went to college because it's way too expensive for me. But every now and then I'll check out some college courses and prices. It'd be awesome if I could just go and take a Minor in Jewelry, Metals & Enameling, with no other shit attached to it. No math courses, no Bachelors Degree shit, etc.

You can take courses but schools are in the business of selling degrees.

Just buy the text book and read it. Problem solved.
