And yes, this is biz related because it's about personal finance.

I guess if you're one of the skilled laborers and you have a union yeah. Big machines operators or technicians should be good in Most industries and you are hard to replace so after 10-20 years of experience if you're above average you're gonna get a very good pay as you are the person saving or costing millions

Yes, at the expense of ruining your body. Do it just enough to get an office job in the mining industry. Trust me, I'm head chef at my local Wendy's

I might have an offer starting at about 100k per year (with overtime) as an equipment operator at a union mine.

your coworkers will probably be 85 IQ. i say this having worked in a rural factory with complete retards. there were some smart and pleasant people, but it was mostly miserable alcoholics, people who had been to jail, or fat 50 year olds who had the maturity of a 13 year old.

I've noticed there's a mix of high and low IQ people in "menial" or blue collar jobs. Some really bright folks, smarter than those with degrees, and then some really dim folks too.

I've noticed this as well. There are also a lot of midwit blacks in my area. The higher IQ ones (for them) tend to get decent blue collar jobs here.

Mining and oil and gas aren’t conventional blue collar. Almost everyone is dumb save for the engineers.

>> No.55319362

White collar or blue collar? White collar maybe. It really depends. Blue collar? Unless you’re Chinese or Australian, probably not. For blue collar it’s a great opportunity for working class people, but for most, people from middle class or above families for example, it’s terrible. You’ll regret it if you’re the latter and you choose a career like this, or even as a temporary job after the age of 25 or 30 or so. I worked in the oilfield when I was young. I made some money, but to this day I regret it. The people who really make never work in the oilfield, or in a mine shaft. That’s just the hard truth.

I come from a blue collar family, have done blue collar work, but am white collar educated.

>white collar educated
Well... I come from a white collar family, and I'm working blue collar. Almost finished nursing school (I'm not a girl btw), but it wasn't happening.

You'll make some decent scratch. Just don't invest it in buying a huge house in the mine town. When if the mine folds, you'll be living hillbilly meth town. The ultimate fate of every 1 employer town.
