How do Californians afford homes when even their median household income is $75k

They all bought 10, 20 or 30 years ago when home prices were 50-80% less than they are now

No young people are buying a home in Los Angeles, SD or SF at these price points with these interest rates unless you have 2 married highly paid college educated couple buying together

>> No.55310355

I've lived in all 3 and it gets boring. it's basically all about being near "good food" and sexy pucci. If you absolutely must live in CA and can afford it, then check out Ventura or OC.

Well, obviously it's boomers

IDK man. I know a lot of college educated couples here in West LA and most work in Silicon Beach for tech companies and even they are struggling to save. Can't imagine couples with only one main breadwinner and a spouse who makes way less or even worse not working

The US have a 65% homeownership rate, less in HCOL areas. The average wage earning is not the average homeowners in HCOL areas. You're looking at closer to the top 80th percentile earners for the average home owner in those places.

immigration solves this
think of all the new construction workers and deliver people and other hard workers. for only 2-300 k people at least 14 of them will be good hard construction that make houses making them cheaper. sggkd0

to add insult to injury, average IQ in California is 75 so good luck finding a contractor competent enough to fix a leaking roof, bad electrical or plumbing. I live in a relatively well run part of the country and even here im struggling to find a mechanic competent enough to work on my car. Housing is unironically a terrible liability right now. You can’t afford a 2.4 million dollar house with that salary.

Source : I make 300k and my girl makes 130k and we afford a 1.2 million dollar house but Anymoree then that would be nonsensical , let alone double .

Fun fact , very few people that make 300k actually have a 300k base salary thatt gives you monthly income that high. It’s usually 160 -200k a year spread out every 2 weeks for a year and then a one time bonus at the end . I literally don’t know any people in tech that just make 300k+ in monthly income spread except C level

Lots of multi-generational homes in California. Almost everyone else is living in a dual income home pulling in 150k-250k/year. Median salary for a CS grad is 90k, Engineers are making 70k+ starting, Nurses and Teachers are making 60k.

My friend in the SF Bay Area is a controller, wife is a Lawyer. Combined they're pulling in 300k/year + stock benefits. They bought a 1.4 million dollar home in 2021, financed at 3%. After their mortgage payment and taxes they have 10k/mo net.

Lawyer is elite tier.
I bet their house isn’t even THAT nice.
And it’s not just her lawyer moniez pulling it in, she needs her husbands elite money too.
It’s over.

Meanwhile I left Ca And moved to the Midwest and just bought a house. 350k put 85 down.
Only making like 90k here as an engineer base and supporting a wife and kid… but hey… it’s working somehow. Just hope that damn furnace doesn’t go out before I can build enough savings to replace it. Winters here are tough…
