doesn't matter. It makes it seem like they're hiring an Engineer who's also a "software guy" for a great deal. If you're just doing CAD 8 hours a day then you need to get out of that and learn some automation or get into a defense contractor or something

Look for a new opportunity. I started fulltime at 52,000 canadian and now make ~ 84,000 Canadian oncluding bonuses etc after 2 years working (first year I was doing part time for like $20/hr). If I were to include stock the company has gifted me then It'd be another 8,000 or so per year.

factory automation will always be in demand. See if you can get into PLC, OPC, etc. Maybe a bootcamp if those exist. Maybe even get certified in some basic AWS

>Also BS ME fag
I fucking hate engineering because all the jobs are for poorly run suppliers that work you to death because every goddamn thing is urgent as all hell. I don't even know how to job hunt because of how broad engineering is and how seemingly specific each job requirement is. Also it feels like I know nothing and I have no decent experience despite working my current job for nearly 5 years. Getting sick of this shit.

This right here, industrial automation is an insanely lucrative field that has a very old average age base so they look to hire young people even without experience.

I'm too paranoid to try and fake my way into one of those jobs just because I've had terrible luck with jobs and I know I'll just get myself into another stressful situation. I'm stuck doing CAD right now which already sucks because more and more of that is getting outsourced to Pajeets in India. I really have no idea what to do anymore.

if you're a fully licensed engineer just go work somewhere else. your salary is way too shit to even bother negotiating. you fell for the "fresh out of school pay him like shit" trap and now you're being milked until you quit. Use your 4+ years of in-field experience and get the proper compensation at a new job. idk what kind of fields you are interested in but we have a MS-ME working at my observatory on our scopes. I think the lower education was a barrier for him to get hired here, but you've probably got your foot further into the door than you think in a lot of careers

i literally say this every time someone posts this thread on biz to help my biz bros. I was a mechanical engineer. if you switch to even the most basic code monkey work and learn how to pass a coding interview, you will make over $100k and move up from there. please do yourself a favor and make the switch

What do? I just want to use my skills and be worthwhile. Would I be able to add python/sql to my skillset and be able to do something similar to my degree? I want to become a consultant one day so the more I can learn, the better.
