Austrian/German anons! Where's the best place to get 5 Reichsmarks in semi bulk? My parents are visiting Austria and are driving around to the bigger cities where they could visit shops, but also have a semi-permanent address there that I can ship to; I need a place I can pick up a bunch of Reichsmarks for near spot.

Because we bought nothing.
>a few ounces of gold/silver

>before an economic crisis.
and so an economic crisis is coming, such a general term that ought to be outright meaningless at this point as in it means nothing and the implications of which mean nothing because it is ill defined, newsflash, its a CURRENCY CRISIS. you acknowledge a crisis but your only suggestion is to choose better no specifics at all. Treasuries, Bonds, they were all real smart and safe to get into and were not just the better but the best investment vehicles. they are upside down and you can sell them for what you paid for them even though they were stored in the garage and never driven. makes the vehicle part particularly funny.
>A lot of people here should be focused on other, better investment vehicles.
Better. Investment. Vehicles.
Well isn't that just so. Are you a financial advisor?
Better. investment. Vehicles. you never said a single instance of what would be better, in fact you haven't given any positive advice at all. it takes a little bit of nuts to tell someone what they should do. But it takes nothing to tell someone what they shouldn't do.

Once you find a shop that has what you crave to a price you're willing to pay place an order or look if they have a physical location your parents can buy at. Ebay is another option. Or let your parents try their luck in random a LCS. They probably have a few at least. Maybe.

>Of course I stack, but I have a legitimate portfolio. My collection only exists because I love to collect that sort of stuff and it's more fun and rewarding than digital numbers in a checking account. I search for deals on bullion as well as numismatic items so I am confident that I can sell quickly sell, for gain even, if I ever needed to liquidate my savings.
Not the anon that originally wanted to discuss this, but I feel this should be repeated more often in here!
There's a reason that most classical financial advice only gives rather low percentages (as low as 5% IIRC) of pms in your portfolio that are only supposed to go higher if you get older and actually have more wealth. When you're young, you're supposed to go into higher risk things to actually grow your wealth, assuming if it goes wrong you still have plenty of earning time to make up for your fuckup.
That said:But still:
Make sure you have some emergency funds available! And yes, that means having fiat. In the bank (because let's face it, shit will not just collapse over night and you will keep on having to pay your rent and shit and no, your landlord just won't suddenly insist on silver coins, he'll keep wanting that bank transfer) and in cash, for when SHTF, which will likely just be some (minor?!) power grid failures where you need to pay in paper. I can 100% guarantee you that no business will just accept random pieces of silver by wheight.
Nowadays it's a bit different.
Silver is manipulated, so there's some non-neglible chance that it'll "moon", so there's a chance that your stack will not only protect your wealth, but also that it might increase it.
Same with all warning signs for inflation flashing red: Gold (and thus also silver by some amount) have a good chance of becoming more important in the future.
Couple that with the general economic (and thus stock market) uncertainty and you'll end up with much higher rates of pms at a lower level of wealth.

Based and Neoclassicism-pilled. The Romans borrowed many of the motifs and aesthetics from Greek master diecutters of the 5th-4th centuries BC. It's cool to think that there were probably coin collectors in ancient Rome admiring and pondering over Greek coins from 500 years earlier.

Stacking is a kind of alchemy, turning paper into precious metal. We can live the dream of the ancients. All it takes is the ability to see through the hypnotic spell that has been cast upon humanity. Like the true alchemists of old understood, we must transform ourselves first, by breaking the spell, and only then can we transform matter.

Stack on my awakened frens.

Chasing after basis points is going to look so retarded in retrospect. The claims to wealth in the paper ponzi are impossible to pay and we are all just waiting for a grand revaluation once impossible debts come due and are written off and we all find out that we are impoverished. They inflated the bubble to siphon out wealth and transfer good capital onto their balance sheets and create a mountain of toxic IOUs onto ours. It's like an organism that generates waste. That is the debt market and it is literally twice the size of the U.S. GDP.

Your ownership values are propped up with leverage across all stocks, bonds, insurance, pensions, social security. This is not really the time to be chasing basis points when there are tens of trillions of dollars worth of losses and unfunded liabilities that will eventually be monetized to prevent a collapse and default. Assets may even increase in nominal terms but you need to be able to survive (and thrive) in real terms. Scarce physical assets that do not carry luxury premiums are going to be a huge winner going forward because they carry no counterparty risk. I agree that if you want to store some capital in productive assets such as heavy machinery you will do well. But most people can not afford it.

This is correct. The idea of "wealth" is something most people do not really consider. They have checking Accounts, savings accounts, 401ks, social security etc. But having valuable assets outside of the clutches of the leveraged financial system is a whole new relevant asset class as the current system is saturated with debt. There are no more bubbles to inflate and inflation/wealth confiscation will be the name of the game for the next 10-20 years if things don't just outright collapse. We are all familiar with stock dilutions and how you can have your investments essentially robbed, well the banking system will do this to your dollar holdings as well and we will ALL end up poorer as a result.

Yup, shit is fucked. Exponential functions are the most powerful force in the universe and they ALWAYS come to a screeching halt in the real world because they are impossible. The money system was set up with this scheme in mind BECAUSE it siphons out all capital from private hands and into the clutches of the ruling class. Everybody plays, everybody pays. That is the big mic-drop. None of this was done on our behalf, but we were the literal fuel being burned in the furnace of the economic leviathan that was rampaging and molding the geopolitical landscape on an international level. American exceptionalism was a lie, and although we will be able to pick up the pieces and carry on, any store of wealth in financial terms are highly suspect. A quick perusal of things like GME will show you that even the entire stock market may be operating on a "fractional reserve" basis and none of us even own what we think we do. We have no idea how massive this ponzi is so it is better to be on the safe side on where you keep your wealth stored. I keep some of my money in investments and trades in order to hopefully secure some more PMs. Because when PMs have their time to shine, most everything else will be eating substantial losses. The problem is no one really knows how long this can continue given the international implications. But signs are pointing to a new international order. If the U.S. cannot secure $700BN trade deficits we'll implode guaranteed. The globe also sees clearly the impending danger of monetization by the Fed to prevent a domestic deflationary implosion. The countries and banks might be stuck, but individuals can hop off of the burning/sinking ship whenever they want.... for now...

I do agree that some in your picture seem to be in great condition, the market for uncirculated RM in America is a lot tougher because many here like to inorganically clean and polish the coins. Nearly all of mine have passed through many collectors and were all cleaned in some way to brutally mirror polished. I doubt that there's a single one of my stack that hasn't been tampered with to some degree.
You see this happening in the communist coins too because these types of coins spill out of the numismatic community that preaches preservation and more into the general historical type collectors that just want their coin to look clean despite the ramifications. I don't blame you personally. They are indeed extremely hard to find in their original state, which is way prices for one are so high despite the tens of millions made.

You can't because gold and silver don't actually track inflation because the inflation numbers are manipulated as well as spot PM prices. PMs are an insurance policy that may or may not make you rich if you can make it through the coming shitstorm with your life and stack in one piece. There aren’t many times you can take a bag of gold chains to the gas station and exchange it for a tank of gas. The only reason the dollar is worth something is because it’s a worldwide accepted form of trade. It’s a transaction based on trust. These precious metals are just a commodity like a bushel of wheat or a barrel of oil or, in more recent times, toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

In times of uncertainty, people run to gold out of the false assumption that it’s going to be a safe investment. But when people make decisions based on fear (or greed), they make poor investment decisions.

When it comes to investing in precious metals, you’ll spend more time agonizing over the rise and fall of their value on any given day instead of building equity on a home or rental property or seeing growth in your 401(k).

Every day you keep an investment, you’re making the decision to keep your money tied up in it regardless of its current market value. That means you need to invest in things that will make you more money over time—like real estate and mutual funds.

I think this will only happen if the U.S. is extremely vulnerable because Mexico is in our backyard and we'll probably make moves to manhandle them to our benefit. The Chinese and Russians will attempt to aid them to weaken us which is a very real possibility. We also have MASSIVE amounts of Mexican nationals in our country which could be a massive pain in the ass for ZOG. Very real possibility that mines get nationalized, but if the 1960s are any indication it could be worthwhile to have some money on the table for speculations.

Not a bad idea. I keep some of my "emergency fund" in boxes of coinage and some cash outside of the banking system. There is no reason your money can't pull double the weight in these trying times. If you don't plan to spend it why not keep it in a deflation/inflation hedge such as metal. ESPECIALLY when the paper markets were showing pop-off tops of 10x needing to be cancelled.
None of us have any clue how long this shit could take to unfold, but the globe and especially western leaders do not appear to be showing signs of confidence in the future. Even if we have 5-10 more years of economic malaise, there will come that dreaded moment when /pmg/ will be vindicated. The trick is to get your stack and not necessarily to go overboard by attempting to hide solely in PMs. The banks would love nothing more than to squeeze your ass in an inflationary depression to compel you to sell assets to stay alive before they are ready to pull the plug. Nothing wrong to chase some trades and other investments in the meantime, just remember to pocket some profits as PMs.

This question seems to pop up a lot. Maybe time to make pasta.
I'd say about 6 (more is better) month's total expenses at current prices. So if you need per month:
2k for housing,
300 for water, sewer, utilities, trash,
300 total for internet, cable, phone.
300 for food,
200 for gas,
x? hundred for medical
x? for car insurance
400 for groceries
200 for 'other',
that's about $3,700 (without the x? unknowns),or 2 ozt/month,
so at least 12 ozt gold.

Platinum is very cool because of its density and other unique properties. But it doesn't have any of the potential upside of gold and silver due to remonetization. The value of platinum is likely limited to its industrial uses. But it could have some very high levels of industrial use in the future (fuel cell tech in particular). And it is currently supplied primarily by two very unstable regions, Russia and South Africa. Russia will probably continue to limp along but South Africa is a slow train wreck with very little hope of getting its shit together anytime soon. So unstable supply and potential high demand. That spells good gains. But I wouldn't go there until I had a firm foundation in silver and gold.

I thought the same already. I'm wondering why the various coin shops don't use this insane arbitrage opportunity. Like the famous 5RM is at least double the price in the US. Sure, if you wanna sell them commercially, you probably have to worry about all kinds of taxes and shit, but at this markup, it seems like it could be worth it. Or at least offer international shipping with the usual
>Taxes and customs are the buyers problem, we just ship it out and you're on your own from that point on!
warning. Taxes and customs suck, but it's not rocket science.

I kinda doubt the bagload thing, but first price I found is 1€ per piece, which seems expensive to me, so you certainly can go lower.
+, the guy you linked is selling anything besides new and unused! Whatever he did to them, he destroyed any value they might have besides their metal wheight by "painting" them. They're bronze, and there's no way proper bronze (even factory fresh!) is going to look like his shit.

Looking up the Reichspfennig, so that I just don't post stupid shit, I found this gem on wikipedia
Essentially, it says that the buying power of 1RM was equivalent to the buying power of between 3.7 and 4.7€ in '20 (so probably between 4.5 and 6€ in '23…).
Now looking at the famous 5RM with its 12g of Ag the spot price of that thing is 9€, so it lost quite a bit of value.
However, if we're looking at the price for buying the one with the windmill, that is at 15€ so we're actually not that far away from its original purchasing power (which would be between 18.5 and 23€). IF we're looking at burger prices however (see the arbitrage opportunity in my previous post), we're even seeing a significant increase in purchasing power.
Funny how this all works.
>>55266271
>Austrian/German anons! Where's the best place to get 5 Reichsmarks in semi bulk? My parents are visiting Austria […] but also have a semi-permanent address there that I can ship to; I need a place I can pick up a bunch of Reichsmarks for near spot.
As you said, you already found the Aufgeldtabelle, but beware of two things:
gold.de doesn't differentiate between the version with and without the windmill, and the cheap ones are always the ones without it!
And those actually are close to spot! (well, at least for europe, where any bullion has at least 19% premium due to taxes, so 16% seems good enough). But the ones you want tend to be at least a quarter to a third more expensive.
And most stores gold.de (note the .de!) is listing only ship to Germany and not the the Ostmark. Haven't checked ALL of them, but so far, only Heubach shipped stuff to Austria for me. And they (as have most others) have a >only sold in collector amounts! caveat with it. Don't know what this amount is (10 is no problem), but they probably won't sell you hundreds. Plus, they appaer to only get limited amounts and don't have them available always.

Hey Frogbro, that is an interesting piece and the results could vary considerably depending on skill. The Ecu in the bottom is probably too gunked up to be saved but I believe the side coins could be removed by cutting through the solder with a jeweler's saw and hammered flat between/on hardwood, then you could use small "needle files" to remove the excess solder. You'd have to sell them as "cleaned/ex-jewelry" but people would still definitely pay more than melt value for them. Just look at that ebay seller linked this thread retailing hundreds of dipped and cleaned Nazi pfennigs for way more than numismatic value; serious collectors won't want them but normies who just want a few shiny fondlers won't care at all. If that's priced around spot I'd definitely grab it.

Because having the place your family lives in simultaneously being your biggest liability is somehow being much less tied up in something?

If housing prices (even if temporarily) drop, being stuck in one place for a decade is not unrealistic. This is not even mentioning all the other things that statistically have a big chance of happening to you: divorce and future increased taxation by the government.

Compare this to PM's, they have performed excellent over the long term and are extremely liquid. And if it's gold you're carrying, it is also extremely portable. Worrying about day-to-day rise and fall is irrelevant for the long-term investor.

with [x]_[y] being the representation of the number x in base y.
But you do see the point that the representation of something is not only not that something, but that every representation is infinitely expandable, and is only finitely representable if it has a fixed point after finitely many steps which you take as implicit (i.e. you just keep adding [10]). Two representations point to the same thing if there is an isomorphism according to the semantics of the representation (the string of [10]...) between all elements, and this is isomorphic to the representations themselves being isomorphic.

Don't take this too seriously if you can't make sense of it.

If you mean nuclear fallout, then yes, gold is worthless in that case. If you mean economic fallout, then gold is worth something in that case.
Money is used to trade surplus, and if there's no surplus, there is no use for money. However, there is at least in most situations always some surplus because of what is "God-given", e.g. prostitution (this isn't an endorsement of prostitutions, just a description of how it works) or surplus from the extraction of freely available natural resources, e.g. electrical power from sunlight.
So if you take "SHTF" to mean "the literal extinction of humanity", then yes, gold is as worthless as any other material good. If you take it to mean e.g. an economic meltdown, then in that scenario, gold is very useful.

A sad truth. Even if South Africa outright collapses into statelessness, some armed force would still seize control of the mines and continue operating them. However, the price would likely significantly appreciate based on the emotional impact on the market alone, since people would understand that they're not getting that metal from a stable country like any other commodity, but from a desolate warzone.
The knowledge of the difficulty of accessing it alone makes it valuable, independent of costs.

Hi Scrapfren, the auction ended just minutes ago, and i won it. Tbf i paid way less than i expected. The item weights 200gr, and i paid 123 bux for it. At 0.60€/gr, i should be slightly below spot in fine silver.
The coins constituting the ashtray :
>1 Ecu Louis XVI "aux rameaux d'olivier"
29.48gr, .917 fineness, 1774-1792 (bottom coin)
https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5768.html
>6x 8 reales Carolus IIII
27.06gr, 0.903 fineness, 1791-1808, those were colonial coins, so probably varrying a bit in weight and purity depending on where they were minted, i took Mexico as example
https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces18852.html
But it could also be from Peru, Chili, Guatemala, Columbia, Bolivia,.. I'll have to investigate this!
Some are worth VERY big monies (but probably not when bent like eggs kek).

The coins alone weights 191gr, and there should be around 10gr of silver solder, so the weight matches the coins in the description from what i can tell.

>>55280331

The power infrastructure in SA is falling apart.

Even if somebody can operate a mine under those conditions, the cost of keeping a huge army on duty and essentially taking over power and fuel infrastructur will be enormous.

Hell yeah man that sounds like an excellent deal, I definitely would have bought it. Just that one pillar dollar alone flattened and cleaned up would probably pay for most of the total cost, I'd be inclined to keep it though because pillar dollars are supremely based. Don't pay much mind to the anons who think the coins would be worthless if skillfully removed, flattened and cleaned up or that it's worth more as a crudely made ashtray. Yeah they're not serious collector grade pieces but there is a healthy market for "budget" coins that cost less than pristine specimens but still look decent.

The bull thesis is astounding for silver. However, you have to be aware of the fact that the ENTIRE international order requires that PMs are suppressed while the elite stave off the inevitable reckoning as best they can. That is a tall order to fill and will not just randomly happen some day. We'll see the cracks coming a mile away while the central banks desperately try to patch things up with bandaids. But that is the truth, that if the leveraged system implodes we'll see ungodly amounts of losses and it won't matter where else your money is parked. You'll be eating a part of that 80-90% loss in every single asset class BESIDES commodities. And when it comes to equities we have no telling if the stock market is even legit when we see evidence of market makers selling shares on a fractional-reserve basis. Nationalizations are also very real. It's going to be a fucking shit show because there is no chance in hell everyone can enjoy their paper claims. We're all far poorer than we think we are and we just haven't come to terms with it yet. Tangible wealth that is not leveraged will be the winners. If anything, all of the leverage for precious metals is on the SHORT side.

Idk if i'm correct, but the riskiest part sounds to be the flattening of the coins, i'm not sure to understand the process involving hardwood and hammers.. Do i simply have to hammer the coins with a hammer against a plank of wood until they go flat? Wouldn't this destroy them?

Nah, it's probably early-mid 20th century, and for whatever reason pieces like that tend to go pretty cheap. I got this bowl with a 1628 Austrian Taler for scrap price, dude kept lowering the price and relisting it and there were no takers until I decided to get it once it was below spot. >a newmont silver mine (The Biggest) in Mexico being shut down, i think the brics along with mexico might just be trying to put an end to the comex/lbma suppression by cutting off supply.

I didn't do any DD but that seems like a pivotal shift, possibly the auspicious beginning of a genuine happening. Any based schizo takes on the meaning of it?

That's only in the dogshit Bethesda games, where they never thought out the economy, or anything else, they just used bottlecaps because it was used before in other games, that's it. In the first fallout bottle caps were used by water merchants as a token to be exchanged for a commodity, water. In all the other games, (the ones that count) as civilizations begin to expand and trade/commerce is implemented they use gold and silver,.

Maybe producers simply had enough of being in the red constantly due to the comex's shenanigans and plan to leave it to byproduct miners?
Protip : this wont suffice. We were already 240Moz in the hole in term of silver deficit last year, if primary miners start to throw the towel, it's 25-30% of silver less. Not sure JPM can cover like a 500Moz yearly deficit with their dragon stack kek.

>Why though? I just don't get it.

I actually have a pretty good handle on it and could bore you at length, but basically the world of numismatics today was very different 100 years ago. I have some catalogs and dealer buy price lists from the 1890s-1920s and unless you had great rarities in top condition many coins that are treasured 4+ figure gems now were basically just scrap. I don't have it handy but as I recall you could buy things like Flowing Hair and Draped Bust silver dollars, very expensive now, for just 1.50-$2 each in the equivalent of Fine-XF condition. There were far more coins available per-capita and far fewer collectors, it didn't really become popular until after WW2. Anyway, old demonetized coins like circulated Spanish dollars or French Ecus were literally just scrap back 100 years ago so craftspeople and silversmiths used them as decorative novelties for various products, if they could quickly solder some scrap coins together and sell it to a tourist for a buck or 2 over melt value instead of going through the trouble of chiseling and hand-chasing their own decorations in a silverware trinket then why not?

Here are my Indian "Chuckram" (formerly Sneedram) demitasse coin spoons, these little 0.3g babbys sell for $5-10 each now but back when the English were lording over the poos these coins were just junk so using 5 per spoon was transforming them from crap into a value-added curiosity for well-to-do tourists or whoever and was simply good business.

I don't have a pic of the other side but it was more worn/polished, still very much worth buying for scrap price though. One day I'd like to free it but it's soldered all around so I need to improve my skills before trying it with confidence. Until then it's still a damn cool looking piece. Be sure to use that ashtray a few times and see how it suits you before dismantling it, maybe you'll decide you like using it too much to chop up quite yet. Practice and improve your skills with other things in the meantime.
