I’m responding to my own post because I’ve thought about it, and I now thing a hyperbitcoinized economy would be inflationary and lead to economic growth, but not because hoarding btc is good. rather, if institutions and individuals can hold btc and see their purchasing power, in real terms, go up say 10% per year, then the only way banks can entice depositors is to offer a higher interest on deposits, which also means they would have to charge a higher interest rate to their borrowers. And, as Milton Friedman showed, higher interest rates are inflationary and stimulative and lead to economic growth, despite the fact that the government, academia, and the corporate press will tell you otherwise. This is called the interest rate fallacy, and it’s the reason a bitcoin standard will lead to massive economic growth and prosperity in the future.

First of all, not ALL fiat on ramps will be banned. Fidelity is opening a crypto exchange sometime in the future and that's a qualified custodian.

Second of all, if all fiat on ramps were to be banned, simply take your crypto overseas to redeem to that country's currency, then find a way to convert that currency back to USD (of course, all of it will be public record so you'll likely get taxed, but so what?)

I am not saying we need a bitcoin standard in the sense of dollars being backed by bitcoin. I am saying in an economy where people can hold bitcoin safely and grow their wealth at a steady, reliable rate, interest rates will have to go up to entice depositors and therefore rates for borrowers will have to go up, and that will cause economic expansion and prosperity. it’s not a return to the gold standard but with bitcoin instead of gold, it’s the fiat system but with bitcoin instead of US treasuries.

what I mean is, there are only two main ways to raise money for a business venture: credit or equity. with credit, you pay back the loan and the rest of your profits are yours. with equity, you will owe a percentage of every dollar you make to your investor, forever. debt is unironically preferable to equity financing, if 1) you can get a fair interest rate and 2) you plan to make a large profit, or be in business for a long period of time.

the bretton-woods system pegged the dollar to gold. that’s not what I’m taking about. the dollar will remain a free floating currency worth whatever it is worth. but people won’t want to hold dollars in a bank account when they could hold btc instead, unless the bank is paying an interest rate higher than the rate btc is appreciating. that means higher interest rates, which are stimulative. it has nothing to do with actually pegging the value of the dollar to btc.

What some of you are overlooking here is that the banking system is slow and antiquated. It can't keep up with fintechs, and creates unnecessary friction. Now enters Bitcoin, which provides complete settlement, p2p, within minutes, and it's secure and decentralized. This aspect of bitcoin completely eliminates the need for traditional banks and intermediaries.
So bitcoin is truly a disruptive technology. If you were to build a bank based on bitcoin, you'd be able to run your bank in manner that a tradfi banks couldn't and more efficiently, without over leverage. This is why bureaucrats/politicians are trying to gate the banking system by creating unnecessary regulations to stifle innovation. It's akin to when the car was created and horse carriage companies created unnecessary rules to operate a car.
If bitcoin was fully capitalized, let's say at $40T mc, it would easily be a globally accepted currency that isn't restricted to borders or exchange. Capitalization is the final crucial step to bitcoin becoming truly unstoppable.

all i'm saying is that people talk about crypto like it's a source of money like the stock market, when the reality is that by design it's made to thwart legal systems, giving it a limited use-case.

let's say i wanted to save money while on social security for disability (which limits my bank account balance to 2000) my only option to not get audited would be local meetups and cash. over use-cases are about as ghetto, like paying your drug dealer over bisq. it's not clear what direction the growth can go that would increase its use.

people want to bet against politicians but not when it gets them thrown in jail. imagine dying in a firefight with the fbi over bitcoin.

If one does it right, btc cant be regulated, it can be made harder to use in the nice society, sure, and the exchange of goods and services are tied to the fiat value because practically all goods are somehow tied to that system as long as the opposition isn't strong enough to convince enough normal people to understand that btc isn't some funny money but simply the cost of energy and hardware used to secure the network. As long as that isn't the case and people produce for fiat, well we btcler exploit the shortcomings of different fiat systems to protect us against the risks that come with a fiat system, like nepotism and corruption by inner collectives of people with power

You're an imbecile. Bitcoin solves money. Hard money is always and everywhere preferred, but before Bitcoin hard money was HARD, you could transact in gold or another commodity, but that's DIFFICULT, physical settlement of hard money is difficult, expensive, and time consuming, soft money had a huge PRACTICAL advantage over hard money that made the sell of corrupt oligarch-supporting institutions i.e. central banks easy. But Hal fucking solved money! All the advantages of soft money while being hard as hard can be. And they can't ban it because they can't ban any disruptive technology for fear other countries don't ban it and they get crashed under the boot of economy. Bitcoin is the future because Bitcoin obsolesces inefficient, parasitic central banks. Everyone (everyone productive at least) benefits from Bitcoin's becoming, wether you hold Bitcoin or not.
