Say you wanted to store things in a physical place (safe deposit box, safe) and you had 10k to spend. Assume you can buy at good prices and over a couple years. What would you put in there?

>paper wallet for bitcoins
>foreign currency
>gold
>silver
>cash
>CDs
>bonds

What would you do /biz/? I would like a have a physical source of money in case my accounts got raided or SHTF.

Keeping CDs and bonds in a safety deposit box doesn't make sense (as in it's not just not a good idea, it's nonsensical).

I have a safety deposit box that I use to store vital documents, gold, and silver, but I'm not worried about accounts being raided of SHTF.

What if my house burned down? Wouldn't those treasury bonds and CDs go up with it?

No, because those things are electronic these days.

I see, I have only had experience with paper bonds. That makes a lot more sense...

Cheers

Yeah, the treasury stopped issuing paper bonds years ago. The only one you can still get in paper form are I-bonds and you have to jump through hoops to do it (have to purchase using tax refund).

I've never even seen a paper CD.

Guns more than likely. I thought about buying gold but that's not really smart.

Most banks prohibit storing firearms or any explosive device in your safety deposit box.

They're not watching you when you put shit into it. They bring the box out and you go into a private area.

I know, I have one, but why take the chance?

You don't want to get a box at a bank; banks are subject to more regulations that can require them to turn over box contents.

Go with a non-bank deposit company, like these guys: http://losaltosvault.com/safer.asp

I'm not worried about that at all and my bank gives me my box for free*.
