There are big pros and big cons to having autism

I’m able to hyper focus on niche technical problems that other people either can’t grasp or don’t have the tenacity to see through to the end. I can basically work in isolation for days or weeks at a time without supervision if it is something that interests me. I’ve basically been lucky enough to be able to weaponise my autism to become a technical expert in my field, which included a PhD. Note that I would be considered in the minority of autists. Many autists have learning disabilities and very low IQs. The meme about autists being kooky savants is pretty uncommon.

The cons are more to do with people issues. Running meetings, managing other people, dealing with last minute requests, having to compromise with people that you operate on an entirely different level to, etc. It’s exhausting and confusing.

You definitely need a combination of neurotypical people and savant autists in my line of work.
