Can someone explain how a squeeze is even possible? Even if shorts were exposed 1 billion shares, that just means they have to return any 1 billion shares to the lender, ie the brokerage they borrowed from. So all they have to do is buy a share from the brokerage, return a share, and then buy another share, repeat. So if the brokerage has even 1 share available, they could just loop that cycle over and over again over the course of months, and still profit as long as the price was below their cost basis.
