In the meantime between the 5 years before they give you the $100 back you get a semi-annual payment of $2.5.

if the government releases a new bond, at the same duration, but it has higher interest yield, your bond that you just bought(you lent the govt money) is worth less, because why would anyone lend money at 2% when someones willing to pay 5%?

the 10 yield treasury bond, is the interest rate that MOST financial assets are priced against. if you can get 5% RISK FREE, for lending money to the government, why would you invest in expensive stocks where you have the possibility of making 5%?

I think that medium term interest rates will go lower, because there is likely to be a recession this year, however there are secular, structural reasons for elevated inflation this decade and the next.
High dependency ratio from demographics, will see a smaller working population, but a larger spending population as boomers spend their savings, pensions and investments before they die, this is naturally inflationary.
You also have China, the previous engine for deflationary productivity growth both running into diminishing returns, and getting cut out of western markets.

Yields are increased in order to find demand.

An increase in the debt limit could increase yields if the risk premium goes up (IE from a credit downgrade) or if it's perceived that there will be elevated inflation through the life of the bond that would decrease it's real yield.
The treasury selling more bonds to raise capital can also increase yields simply through increasing supply, yields increase to find enough buyers.

It depends on what kind of deal is made for raising the limit and to what degree the market is pricing it in already.

For example, increased work requirements are broadly deflationary.
However government spending caps generally might be deflationary In the long run, but they will also reduce economic demand which could drive the market down.
The resumption of student loan payments for example will basically take 400 dollars a month out of the pocket of many consumers.

Personally I think the market is overbought at the moment and the medium term outlook is down, so this might be a good catalyst for that.
