How much house can I get making 70k a year? I have 25k saved in cash and 30k in stocks. Does it make sense for me to ever buy? I don’t want to be house poor. Right now I’m saving 50% net hoping to buy a house

About $150k if you're single.

Seriously demoralized right now. Let me save up for another 5 years and see where I’m at.

Assuming your job is available most places move to a mid sized US city with a mismatch in home and rent prices and find a deal on a multifamily that can still qualify for a loan but looks ugly. Live in one of the units, rent the others, and fix it up as you go.

if you're planning to live in the same place for at least 5 years then yes it's always a better financial decision to buy instead of renting

get a wife who works and then see how much house you can get with double income. Also buying a house when you're not married is a questionable decision; you can go on a lot more dates living in a downtown apartment compared to living in an isolated suburb 30~45 minutes away
