In Canada so these are all leaf prices.
Rent 1600
Electricity 130
Food/Eating out/Delivery, anywhere between 500-1100 depending on how lazy I am
Cell Phone 40
Internet 140
Tenant Insurance 22
Car Insurance 110
Car Maintenance/Gas 105
Clothing and Hygiene products 80
Entertainment/games/hobbies/computer parts 200

Total monthly is somewhere between $2927 and $3527

I don't drive much, 15 minute commute.
Usually buy clothing/hygiene stuff like shampoo, soap, cleaning products, etc. once or twice a year as needed and then divide it by 12 to get an average.
Rent is super lucky, it's a 2 bedroom in rent controlled apartments so it can only go up 2% unless I get renovicted, but it's a big corporation that hasn't done anything like that yet and I've been here 8 years. Would be $2200/month if I started renting here today.

Inverkeithing, Fife. The town itself doesn’t have much going on and is a little rough but it’s 25 minutes on the train to Edinburgh which is nice and about ten minutes drive to the nearest decent sized supermarket. Also my work takes me to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee which can all be reached in under an hour’s drive so it’s a perfect location for me.

I’m dreading the day the landlord realises he’s undercharging me for rent and chooses to sell or not renew the lease as the rent freeze prevents him from taking it to market rate. I really should be paying £650 for a one bedroom flat.

>> No.55081148

>>55080620
It's not sustainable, you have a few options you can pick and choose from.
a) your mom gets a job
b) try to cut expenses as much as possible, food banks can help, have your mom cook every meal for everyone, go for calorie dense foods like pasta and buy in bulk.
c) you all move somewhere less expensive
d) dad gets disability money
e) somehow fix your brother so he can contribute
f) abandon them or limit your contributions to them. It's shitty but it's also shitty that they're depleting your savings. Do they expect you to go into debt for them? Where does it end? At the very least you need to have that conversation about the future, you need to be able to build retirement savings.

>mom says our total expenses are 5000-6500/month
This seems high. I assume you're all living together? Is it a rental or mortgage? Car payments? Figure out where the money is going exactly.
Renting a 4 bedroom house + food + utilities you should be able to be able to keep expenses under 4k/mo in most countries, especially if you're willing to move 2-3hrs from any expensive area which you can do as a remote worker.
