I'm not saying short but at least be closer to cash than not. We're going down. Core PCE is sticky. Rates are probably going higher despite the pause and pivot hopium. Lending has tightened and will continue to do so even more. Don't be fooled by the subprime garbage still giving out 18% apr credit cards, that's a side show. The easy big money is over. And after the bank fiasco in March, count on more regulatory scrutiny making things even tighter.
Oh, and if everybody has forgotten, we are almost certainly headed for a recession. The yield curve isn't at -45 degrees for nothing. Note too that there is literally no breadth in equities right now. Look at the Russell. Look at midcaps. Look at RSP/SPY or QQQE/QQQ. Something like 8 stocks and a so-far strong labor market are holding up this entire shit market. That's it. When they fall there's nothing else. People will lose all confidence and selling will happen in earnest.
If anything we're headed for stagflation. Growth is slowing yet inflation is still running high.
And yet the market is full of complacency. VIX has had some of its lowest prints since 2021. The sheep are being lured into the trap. The put/call ratio 10 day moving average is at the support it's held since January 2022. Yet we have debt ceiling, recession, no breadth, tightening lending standards, rates higher for longer, a market built on a house of AI hype that is begging to implode at any moment.
