You shouldn't put so much value on money in the first place thinking it makes/breaks people. If it wasn't money, it'd be land. If it isn't land it is some other resource. Yeah you lack a fundamental information:
Generating a wallet is ALWAYS just picking a random number between 2^01 and 2^256. That's all.

So you can create your wallets offline, no issue. Hardware wallets like Ledger have a TRNG system to generate this random seed. Only important point: for it to be random.

All of crypto is built on top of that

I don't why people have so much trouble understand this, when it is a simple thing.

Crypto is always on the block chain. The seed+passphrase is just the information you use to sign a transaction proving you authorize it. The key never has to be online. Its just that the math to sign things is very involved and requires a computer, but it could be an entirely off line computer (or done by hand but it takes days).

Maybe the problem is that the term hardware "wallet" is a misnomer. The hardware wallet doesn't store anything that doesn't exist outside the wallet. The hardware "wallet" is just a way to use the seed+passphrase to sign transactions without exposing the seed to any computer or online.

You're wallet is still controlled by the seed+passphrase which is just information. It can be written down offline (which is safest) or stored in your email (not safe) or memorized. You'll just need that information to sign transactions, that's it. And a hardware "wallet" is just a way to do it without exposing your seed to a computer.

If you just receive crypto, only hold, never make transactions, then you never have to use your seed at all other than to generate an address one time. Hardware wallets are for using your crypto, signing transactions.

I'm a brainlet and I was using a HW wallet for the convenience. I just hodl and plan on cashing out years from now. Would this work:

1. build a cheap PC without a network card, install something like linux mint on it.
2. Follow the guide on MEW for offline wallets:https://help.myetherwallet.com/en/articles/6512619-using-mew-offline-current-mew-version-6
3. store my seed phrase on paper somewhere safe.

If the PC I built is damaged or destroyed, I still have my seed phrase written down like any other HW wallet.

The other option was doing something like gnosis safe with my existing ledger and go the multisig route but I don't know shit about gnosis.

are all of you this retarded? You don't need a fucking wallet, you can do it all on paper. You just have to download the btc blockchain to make transactions. Same with ethereum. Just interact with the contract directly. The crypto exists on chain, most people dont realize a wallet is nothing more than a dumb ledger that says "this address has access to x amount of crypto". Are you guys joking or

Ledger lost.

It was the most shilled hardware wallet on this board and all of a sudden you see all these posts on how open source (trezor) is not to be trusted, you need to airgap all your shit, there’s backdoors, etc. Shit that /g/ wouldn’t even agree with.

You lost.

Insecure for TC means it could get your windows bootloader fucked up if something weird happened to windows while encrypting the driver, I've been using it for almost a decade and never had problems with it
Nowadays I use it on top of Linux so it's even better

Just get an old Dell Optiplex or something. Most of those old office grade PCs don't have built in WiFi cards and you can find them super cheap. Install Linux and a wallet, disconnect the Ethernet cable, generate a new wallet, and write down your seed. Done.
