OpenAI and Google dont have anything special. OpenAI just has more experience and currently more compute, but open-source is far more ideal for use cases that require not sending a whole bunch of data to microsoft.
There was some leaked google report talking about this. Meta is getting huge amounts of free work from the FOSS community on their leaked model, its only a matter of time before its on par with GPT-4, and meta only has to pay a fraction of the price of fine tuning and training and features because much of it is being done by the FOSS fags.
Because the model was 'leaked', meta can use whatever open source developments are made in their own proprietary offerings.
