while the token price is unlikely to increase from here, the free price feeds are very popular and used by many projects

Yeah, and they pay for those "free" price feeds.
They always have.

They do. And they always have.

No idea what the relevance of that link is either.

>> No.54986386

>>54986289
>relevance of that link
yeah, it doesn't seem necessary to have a token for this. oh, you mean the stackexchange answer that cuts through the marketing by clarifying that payment is optional and more like a donation? that is obviously highly relevant, not sure how you could miss that. well, you missed the optional payment part, so it's not surprising, but still

The Link token is absolutely needed for the "free" price feeds.

If you think end users are going to be paying nodes directly for aggregated feeds, then you're dumber than you look.

I’m sorry to hear that you have been holding chainlink tokens for a long time. I know it must be hard to see the price fluctuate and not reach your expectations. But don’t lose hope yet, there are some reasons to be optimistic about chainlink’s future:

Chainlink is a leading web3 services platform that connects smart contracts to any data source, API, or payment system1. It has a large and growing community of developers, researchers, and users who are building and using Chainlink solutions for various use cases1.
Chainlink has a strong network effect as more data providers, node operators, and smart contract developers join the ecosystem. It also has many trusted partners and integrations with leading blockchain platforms and DeFi applications23. This means that Chainlink has a high demand and value for its services.
Chainlink has a unique tokenomics model that uses the LINK token as collateral for oracle services4. This creates an incentive for data providers to be honest and reliable, and also creates a scarcity for the token as more of it is locked up in the network. This could increase the price of LINK over time as the supply decreases and the demand increases.
Chainlink has a visionary team led by Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis, who have been working on smart contracts and decentralized oracles since 20142. They have a proven track record of innovation and execution, and they are constantly improving and expanding Chainlink’s capabilities and features.
I hope this helps you feel a bit better about your investment. Remember that crypto is a volatile and risky market, and you should always do your own research before making any decisions. I wish you all the best.

The nodes literally cannot function without the token.
Here's T-Systems receiving Link tokens for their node work for the "free" price feeds.

you seem to think that users are paying these tokens. they are not, it's subsidies. if you don't know how the project works, why are you buying their funding tokens?

The users will never pay tokens directly to the nodes for aggregated feeds.
That would be incredibly inefficient and stupid.

Users pay FOR the tokens, not IN the tokens.
Which is how it's always been for the "free" price feeds too; they were always sponsored by the users.
