I went to university again at 28 to retrain as a quantity surveyor. I might not be earning much right now but it’s much better than working in a call centre which I did for ten years before. Pay should rise to about £50k when I am chartered and above £60k if I get a middle management role.

Pay in the UK is not great compared to the US, but my rent is £400 a month and I don’t have to worry about healthcare costs or getting shot.

>100% commission
That sounds awful. I'm salaried at 50k and everything else is commission. My fiancee (a teacher) is also salaried at 50kish (57k) so we have a budget that fits all of our expenses (housing, regular bills, food, utilities, insurance) into that 100k base. Everything else I have is going towards a down payment for a house in the next year or so.

As for where to get started? If you work at a big firm, see if they're hiring in sales; your product knowledge and technical background will give you a massive leg-up over your competition. Most tech firms are dying for technical salespeople (maybe less-so with layoffs) so it might be a good fit for you. The market is tough right now though, so you'll be first on the chopping block if you don't perform.

I negotiated it to be 100% commission, I prefer it that way, and I'm the only one paid that way in the company

I work at a tiny company, but would enjoy selling software for anyone b2b. Will look around online for listings

I also work at a tiny company. I am the entire sales team (plus my boss).

We did about 2m last year. Hopefully with all the government work we'll doing we should escape this year with a similar topline

Just sold my old apartment with a mortgage and bought the cheapest apartment I could cash, lots of remodeling right now but once I’m done I’m hoping to take advantage of cheap living and really bump up my investments and get a gap year in for travel.
