I have the opportunity to be a bookkeeper or electrician and I can't decide which.

Electrician if you want to make good money in a good career. I'd only go bookkeeper if you plan on getting a degree and trying to leverage your experience for higher level finance roles.

What's the best way to get into the field if you had to do so today, with zero connections or knowledge, but unlimited time and money?

Find all the local small time electrical shops in the area and just go around applying for them. Once you get in with one, they will help you with the process to get your apprentice license. At that point, once you have your apprentice license you can go work for any other electrical contractor

Worked both, depends on if your comfortable with a repetitive sedentary job where office politics are a way of life, or, a job where you have problems to solve, physical work and a surprising amount of responsibility.

learn the electrican trade through an apprenticeship. then self teach bookkeeping when you start your own business. Electrician apprentice is bloated atm to many limps, do hvac.

$20-30/hour is realistically what he will make in 10 years if he starts being an electrician today. I don't know why this board pretends trade jobs pay so well, I think it's the fact that no one here actually works these types of jobs.

Accounting shit is dead by then.
AI is now getting billions of investments into accounting coding.
It literally is over.

depends on where he lives and if it's union. i live near philly. after a 5 year apprenticeship the union electricians make like $60/hour plus generous benefits including a pension. but if he's working for non-union for some crusty old boomernigger, yeah, it's going to fucking suck and pay a lot less.

Trades are already dead if you are honest about the hours involved. Like any other job, the guy at the top who hasn't updated his skills since the 80s makes the money and others get fucked.
