My parents got them. Well the thing to keep in mind is I've got a pension in addition to these which lasts from retirement to the day I die. (The pension is safe; the state would have to go bankrupt before the pension was in any way threatened; the state has over 1 billion stuffed in a rainy day fund so yeah I'm not to worried). With every salary hike I get the pension gets jacked along with it. So long story short; long as me and the wife don't do any crazy spending post retirement the pension check I get each month would cover everyday expenses and then some. The 401k and brokerage would therefore just be along for the ride and roll on untouched till I had to take the RMD at 75 for the 401k or in the case of the brokerage just keep rolling. Bottom line; Uh the money would outlast me and her; our heirs would be thrilled though. I may start another "retirement" fund with some of my pension money at 54. Cause 54 to 75 is like over 20 years. Why let that time go to waste? Sure I won't need it but hey nobody ever said having excess green is a bad thing. (Not counted; a decently stuffed emergency fund at retirement for shats and giggles). Also all debts minus the house will be paid off by retirement to.
