They can just add tail emissions. Pretty obvious it's going to have to happen eventually, assuming Bitcoin is still relevant in a couple decades, hasn't been banned/switched to PoS by then, etc.

It's only a hard fork if the mining community disagrees with a new feature and choose not to participate in the updated blockchain. You really think the people who hold all the hashing and voting power in the network (ie. miners) are going to oppose tail emissions or anything else that would make their mining more profitable if Bitcoin ever gets to a point where it's unsustainable?

>> No.54876400

>> No.54876596

>>54876574

Lmao miners are the ones who create blocks, not nodes. If the miner community doesn't agree with a BIP they can just choose not to upgrade and mine on the newer version and hardfork the chain. At the end of the day it's the miners with all the power, they're the ones that secure and keep the network running. And as it should be, they're also the ones with the largest costs and most skin in the game.

>> No.54876670

>>54876627

And what, pray tell, would nodes do if miners took all their hash and computing power over to the forked chain? But please tell me more about how miners don't have the final say and all the leverage.

Miners begrudgingly went along with user initiated proposals in the past because they could still profit and make money. There's no guarantee they would go along with future ones if that was no longer the case.
