Some have paid off their debt and salvaged their balance sheets and are now buying back stock or paying a decent dividend, but there is a limited life to that income. I wouldn't short these, but they have limited short term upside from here. It's a melting ice cube.

The shorts are the ones that still haven't paid off debt. They'll see lending dry up, rates rising to infinity right as they need to refinance. As profits dwindle due to the recession pressuring commodity pricing, all profits will once again be going towards servicing that debt.
These things are zombies. Someday soon they'll be zeros.

Shipping stocks are some of the easiest shorts right now, all pumped up on inflated NAVs but behind that is insane debt loads on ships that operate at thin margins even during good times. They'll collapse in the same way that banks have recently.

As for why tech stocks are bullish - they've been dumped on for too long. They're ponzis, dependent on money printing. More printing is about to start happening. It'll take a while for this to flow back into the real economy, but there'll be helicopters full of cash dropping stacks on silicon valley VCs soon enough. You want to front run this move.
