It's not about making a project grow or not. He's essentially trading off of the volume. The bot knows when a large buy is coming in so it'll front run the transaction and buy a bunch of tokens before the large buy comes in and then once the large buy order is filled, his tokens are now way more valuable and vice versa for sells.
