The average normie IQ is dropping but the basic barriers to PC and internet use stay the same. Most are too stupid to fix a broken PC, either hardware or software, via trial and error. Plus if you get everyone using basic phones with no customisation options, you can herd them all into the KYC surface internet.

Gen Z is just one extreme or another. My brother and I were always into tech shit, and while he may be much better as far as programming is concerned (I don’t really have the patience for that, I’m more on the network side of things lol) we both still exhibit pretty solid understanding of all the concepts of computing. But for every one of us there are those who only see computers or phones as the magical boxes that just miraculously make the funny words and colors happen, and only see them as app machines. Ask yourself this, how many of the younger millennials even know of DOS, let alone know how to navigate it? How many even know what a Commodore was? Now apply that to even younger people. People who even had a basic inner knowledge or understanding of computers were always the exception to the norm, case in point that recent hearing with the CEO of shittok where the senator who was only in his 40’s asked if it could connect to the internet on your home wifi with a straight face.

I understand this is a very unpopular opinion, but I kind of despise generational labels. They're fine for marketing analysis, but otherwise constitute pretty crude stereotypes that have all the academic rigor of horoscopes. Boomers like this, zoomers like that, saggitariuses are ambitious but cautious, they should marry within the year of the Rat for long and happy life!

when using older windows you could see how it worked like looking under a hood of a car. most skilled users could use command prompt or were at least aware of it. Before that it was BASIC computers that you had to code to use.

I don't get what your point is. UI developers are always trying to make it dumber and easier to use, usually at the expense of broader capability.

If we're talking about an OS, you can do everything with command line, less with pure Windows 10, and even less with modern mobile style tile based systems. It isn't arbitrary, it's totally about form vs function.

>It doesn't seem like it's a good idea to hire this person

Based on the post provided, it is understandable that you may have concerns about hiring this individual. The issues with their tone, organization, unsubstantiated claims, and mention of potentially illegal activities could raise concerns about their professionalism, judgment, and ability to work in a team environment.
While the author of this post lists a number of technical skills, there are several aspects of the post that are concerning:

Inappropriate language: The author uses derogatory terms to describe certain genres of music and software, which could be considered unprofessional and inappropriate.

Lack of clarity: The author's description of their experience is not very clear. For example, they mention that they have "never made a career" in coding or audio production, but it's not clear what kind of work they have done in these areas.

Lack of depth: The author lists a number of skills but does not provide any examples or evidence to show how they have applied these skills or what they have achieved with them. This lack of depth makes it difficult to assess the author's level of expertise or potential.

Questionable behavior: The author's admission of illegal activities, such as torrenting and using crypto to order items as a teenager, could be a cause for concern for potential employers or collaborators.

My general impression has always been that there are tiers of computer illiteracy:

>Can code, understands how the hardware and software generally works (there's layers to this)
>Can "code" but don't really know what they're doing beyond a narrow area (web devs, a surprising number of people doing scripting)
>Can use the computer and edit a few files or monkey around with shit under the hood (quite a few people)
>Can navigate a device intuitively and figure out how it generally works even if they don't understand what's going on under the hood (most younger people)
>I have no idea how this infernal machine even functions, how do I silence my phone (most, but not all, boomers)

Most millennials and gen z fall into the category of at least being able to navigate or fuck around with it, and a surprisingly large number of people can at least dig around under the hood. I have never gotten the impression that zoomers were more tech illiterate than millennials, but maybe I don't interact with enough of them. However a quick google search of "gen z tech savvy" gives me articles that says that they're the most tech savvy, and "gen z tech illiterate" gives me articles that says that they're tech illiterate. So aside from google's algorithm being fucked I have no idea.

they are. they are for the most part category 4 - same as millenials handeled video recorders and other analog boomer tech zoomers handled digital devices, It was there, you knew how to operate it, everything beyond, who cares. And the issue with the AI astroturf is, that it requires a hell lot of specializations and a declining population simply has not the capacities for such specializations to be driven.

Add on top thet the soon demographic buldge, Millenials and GenX hate the Boomer corpo system that rugged them at least 4 times with a passion that goe to a degree where the late 18th century is going to look tame

The ones I grew up with who were born in the early 90's knew way more about computers than the average person from my experience. I built a computer with my dad when I was 8 years old, and was using limewire to download music in grade school. When I was in highschool everyone knew how to torrent movies and software. It wasn't until smart phones became super commonplace that computers started being seen as something just for work or to play video games. Smart phones existed when I was in highschool but not a lot of people had them yet, most of the kids still had basic flip phones that could only text.
