Are you sure about that? Banks are failing because of their mark-to-market losses on their bond portfolios. Most of the bonds on their books yield 2% interest when the market is near 4%.

That's a 30% haircut right there. Also their commercial real estate loans aren't doing too well either and they may not have the balance sheet capacity to hedge against these risks. They have to eat the loss somehow.
