It's a good way of looking at it but in reality most people, upon seeing their unrealized gains on their computer screens immediately think they're rich and begin planning out (or even spending money on) extravagant futures for themselves (see: almost every screenshot in this thread).

By the time they're half way done planning, greed takes over and they think they could just get a bigger house or a bigger boat or a more expensive car or whatever and just hold their position into the ground.
