Stocks will keep going up at least until they start going down again. We will know for sure when that happens because price changes will switch from an upward direction to a downward one. The main indicator that we can use to identify this switch is that we will start to see stock prices falling instead of rising. That will tell us when returns on stocks have begun changing from positive to negative. With negative returns, that means that stock values will be shrinking rather than growing. Thus, the prices at which stocks are bought and sold will be going down instead of going up. In fact, if a stock's price is changing, then that means it is either falling or rising.

Terminal fed funds strongly related to depth of market crash in terms of M2 $'s per SP500 $'s

Assuming a rate of monetary contraction consistent with the last year, by January 2024 we will have contracted to $19T.
Then, assuming a conservative crash peak M2/SPX ratio of 9 billion based on recent crashes, that places the bottom of the next crash for sp500 to hit ~2100

That chart isn't a good indicator of the peak, only that SPY is strongly correlated to monetary expansion and inversely correlated to higher interest rates, as expected. But it shows how SPY crashes proportional and with fairly even tempo with rate hikes and terminal rates.
My hazard of a guess is that SPY will crash to 210 by the end of the year. This recession is weird because the fed would have normally started the cycle much earlier, so I can't really predict when this will occur

Clippy sucked
The "soulful" part of pre-2010 Office was that it didn't take a perceptible amount of time to execute every action even on a brand-new computer. Like seriously Office 365 on my basically brand new reasonably solid work laptop has noticeable lag (100's of ms) for almost every relevant action whereas Word 2003 was instantaneous on reasonable late-2000's hardware.
XP was a weird era where hardware advancement legitimately outran software bloat for a brief period, now the speed only needs to be "good enough" as devs cram whatever shitty features or cloud-connected bullshit needs to be in it this week.

Because unlike a lot of countries we haven't completely deforested the land so wood is plentiful and cheap. It would be obnoxiously stupid to build with anything else. Homes are built to specific codes and last a long time, easily longer than most people care to live in one place. Your beef is misplaced. Japan is a better example of a place that builds disposable houses and they do it on purpose. It's cultural. Look into it

Houses are falling apart after 20 years so you have to keep rebuilding, keeping supply tight. It's the same with 30+% US population not working - they keep consuming, keeping the economy in good shape. It's smart if you think about it. I would even venture to say this state of things is intentional.

There's a large divide between actual value of the house in parts and labor vs. the sales price of the property. Land is a huge percentage + real estate bubble (still). Shit that does fail: roof shingles, siding, burst pipes in the cold regions.

Disagree, they're tightening monetary supply leading to potentially catastrophic deflation. This hasn't happened since the great depression, and even then it wasn't a government project.
The peak already occurred; remember that we're still on the the cliff edge of one of the biggest bull traps in history. The opportunities were to buy in october when inflation peaked and sell in feb, then buy the dip in march and ride the wave of liquidity from the bailouts into middle of april. the retail price for food in autumn is being determined right now between the retail chains and the food manufacturers. Last year, the food manufacturers passed the rise of the commodities and energy on the end consumers, but their expenses peaked and now everybody sees the spot prices decreases a lot, so the retail giants want the manufacturers to decrease their prices precisely to decrease the retail price.
To be clear when inflation decreases the end consumer never get the exact price before inflation, it will be a bit higher, but the peak was really last year first semester of 2023.

Now the part of the inflation which is slowly decreasing is the services and housing but they will decrease too.

No, it looks like it's going to bleed slowly praying for a care package. The fed is offering them tons of credit and letting them take loans against their mbs and bonds at par, It's not clear to me what their losses will be like in the next quarter.

The plan seems to be: 25% reduction of staff, 100 billion in asset sales (mostly mortgages), a fed pivot starting in 2024, maintaining client relations hoping to get the deposit base to return, converting the 30 billion deposit from Dimon and co. into capital, and stock dilution (of what's left i guess)

If all of that goes right, they'll be okay. Yeah, I don't buy it either....

But that's what they're shooting for.

Are there any good tools for tracking performance without it being warped/obfuscated when you put money in. By my workings the amount I put in at a time is going to keep causing spikes that fuck up the graph until I've around £50k invested which'll take 5+ years.

Look, suppose FRC gets a realistically good outcome and lives on as a lobotomized mortgage security selling antithetical joke of its former self. What is that business worth?
They're in the hole paying debts with HOPEFULLY conservative revenue generating strategies. They're looking like it's going to be a few years of losses and then bupkis forever after. There's no dividend a near term loss on the horizon and no expectation of long term earnings. What's the upshot here? The fucking price to book value?

Yeah, cause you can't do it yourself nowadays if you don't have a high paying job like lawyer or medical doctor or something alike.

My father who couldn't speak german was invited to germany from greece and worked in at large chemical industry, but simple manual labor. I'm always amazed about how much money he could save with that. His education? 6 years of school (primary). Built a house in greece, could have bought another in germany if he had done in the 80's-90's but there was always the uncertainty of returning back.
