Buying a car has become impossible

>Search for used car, prices are through the roof and sometimes close to new prices, unless you want some 2015 shitbox
>Search for new cars and out the door price are high and even then you get put on a wailst

When will car prices come down bros? It's getting awfully tiring.

Just buy some high quality car from the late 1970s to mid 1980s. Some Mercedes. Dirt cheap and will last much longer.

Yr, buy a 40 year old car, what could go wrong?
Sorry to say it, but the time of cheap and reliable 70s and 80s cars is over, that was the 2000s.

/o/ here

You don't want to buy a car from a "buy here finance here" lot, all vehicles were bought at auction and likely have something wrong with them. They likely clear the CEL so it stays off long enough on your test drive.

Used car prices are never going down btw, people started hoarding them when Biden passed a law requiring interlock systems in all 2026 model years, nobody paid attention to this when it was snuck into the infrastructure bill but when people realize this, nobody will want a new vehicle. Post WuFlu vehicles (even Toyota) have more reliability issues as well, the Shanghai Sick fucked up supply chains and forced manufacturers to cut corners. Ideally you want to buy a 2020 (built in 2019) used Toyota/Honda that will be your vehicle for at least the next 20 years as they try to normalize EVs with internet backdoors for the population.

I don't get it, why does this policy mean that no one will want a new vehicle?

apparently it means that the car is supposed to detect wherever a driver is drunk and prevent driving, doubt they will install blow detectors in cars so it will be some bullshit detection mechanism which probably has loads of false positives which means people will be prevented from driving their own car

They're filing patents for self reposessing cars. The interlock systems require cameras focused on the interior to prevent other passengers from blowing into the breathalyzer. Tesla requires all maintence done at the dealership network therefore using a private mechanic violates the warranty; this kind of 'Terms of Service" that could lock you out of your car that you "own" isn't WEF schizo; it's laying the ground work for providing cars as a service.

Non-rusted late 90s - 2000s Japanese vehicles have bottomed in price and will rise in value because they're the peak of automobile reliability. Pic related is next Bitcoin.

Lmao. A seven year old car is still going to be plenty reliable as long as it isn't super high milage and/or abused. See if you can find a used 2015 that only has a single owner, good chance he babied and took care of it.

exactly
if self driving cars are ever going to be widespread, this is how it's going to end up. because tesla can make more money keeping the car and renting it out like a taxi then selling it. elon musk has said that's their plan, he's open about it. if they can make more money keeping the car then selling it then you're not going to own a car assuming the other automakers go the same way and why wouldn't they once it becomes possible and accepted.

so i'm imagining a future where cars no longer have planned obsolescence since the customer is now the car company itself why would they build that in. as a result automotive technology will stall. the end result is that every couple decades ford or tesla will update their fleets of self driving cars with new models. people will get excited about "the new ford" that they will have access to for a monthly subscription. automobile discussions will center around which mobility company provides the safest, most comfortable, and most affordable ride.

There's still some gems out there is you know where to look OP. All the major used car sites like cars/cargurus/autotrader have slowly been phasing out all pre-Obama/CAFE standard cars (i.e anything not electric or the equivalent of a go kart engine.) You won't find them online. Go to a locally owned car lot and eat. I'm looking at a 2500HD myself and i don't intend on towing anything.

you won't be driving it though obviously. but that has its benefits in terms of just fucking in the backseat on the way to the restaurant. the car will be filming this however and may deduct points from your social credit score for this behaviour which will increase the cost of your monthly subscription with your mobility company
