Yes, that's a classic of failure analysis. It's also not even remotely the same scenario.
The "survivorship bias" story works because engineers knew X planes went out and less than X planes returned.
In contrast, for scammers we catch a bunch of scammers who fail their scams miserably, lose all their money, and end up in prison, and we are just making a wild assumption that there are a ton of scammers who are super successful and never get caught.
