No reason to, and people don't seem to understand what the national debt is. It's not some credit card or loan that people can just call back for immediate payment. Debt is treasury bonds which already have a set payback time. There is no reason to pay back the debt because they speculate they can earn more money from the loan than interest they have to pay on the loan (bonds).
