But why are those currencies pegged to the dollar? Is it maybe because every country uses it for international trade? And, in that case, what happens once some of those countries start settling transactions in something else? I'm sure the US is doing it not because they know that everything is denominated in dollars, but because they expect that everything will still be denominated in them after they've done it.
