Did I screw up?

>be me
>majored in CS
>one year away from graduating

Meanwhile,
>entire tech industry is dying
>AI is getting smarter
>inflation out of control

I thought I was doing the right thing by studying CS. But now I'm having my doubts... I just want a job that pays a living wage, bros.

Tech dying is a meme if you can write a loop

>> No.54565023

Tech is fine. It was just overly hot and is now correcting. No you won't get $150k starting anymore, take your $75k or so and be happy.

Do you have internships and good personal projects? You'll be fine. I'm in the same boat anon, should be a while until shit really goes south for us.

I don't think your average person knows what an API is and how it works.
That one concept is just the tip of the ice berg, some programs require you to comprehend how memory management works, if you're the one coding it. You need to explcitily tell the computer how you wish to manage that memory or else the compiler doesn't work. It's like a car, you still need to get your driver's license or you can't actually drive. In theory, you could drive around but you'll probably die if you needed to use a highway.

godspeed anon

Well if you're planning to only get coding jobs with your CS degree, then yes you're screwed.

I recommend looking elsewhere. CS is a much broader degree than many initially think. There are all kinds of jobs you can get with the CS degree.

white collar bubble just starting. There will be white collar jobs but not as much as in the past. The bubble just starting.

The ability to automate code monkeys’ jobs will make CS higher education more valuable. We will still need senior engineers to design architecture and vet the entrusted AI-generated code. The lower rungs of the career ladder are being destroyed. I expect masters degrees in CS to become much more common among Americans. It’s currently just for pajeets and changs to get H1B

Did you get a CS degree?
I have an engineering degree and all I want is a semi-technical wfh job. My current wfh job is so reliant on soft skills (ie bullshit) that I worry about growth and my future

This. Muh “ChatGPT will replace ALL ENTRY LEVEL CODEMONKEYS IN 2 WEEKS LEARN A TRADE” is getting old. Ironically all the FUD could actually drive tech wages up for a while because more zoomers have gotten scared and switched majors. A lot of this is marketing from AI companies just like every shitcoin says they will be the coin that gets mass adoption. I also wonder if there is an aspect of psy op to this to get zoomers to willingly go into the trades somehow because nobody wants to be a tradie despite a huge shortage of them.

You are probably too young to remember the last two recessions, but the tech industry is always the first to fall, but also the first to recover. It's already been a good play to buy the nasdaq for quite a few months now (yeah a correction is happening soon). In a year or so, tech will already be hiring again. Get some AI portfolio experience in the meantime.
