I am literally depressed because of this. It feels like some cruel bullshit scheme from the government and suppliers designed to fuck me and other middle / low income earners over. We need price controls, or some sort of collective protest.

Capitalism has always been designed to fuck people over but they’re not even trying to hide it anymore.

>> No.54559783

I fucking hate it. I basically live way below the poverty line. I get under paid severally, especially for my line of work. I skip my daily meal some days because I can't buy food for both myself and my cat + other basic needs. I'll always choose to feed him over myself. Mainly because I can understand life sucks sometimes, but he doesn't deserve to experience that. He gets atleast 2 meals and snacks a day.

Shits getting expensive out there. Might not even have enough buy a few meters of rope from my local bunnings the way things are going.

How long will this go on?

I was thinking cats usually murder 2 possums and 5 birds a night, so they're pretty much self sufficient. That and cloth nappies gets it down to about $60 a week
-
Personally I go for the cats that are 'free to good home' off Gumtree and cook them in the yard over a fire made from broken down furniture I steal from next to the wozzles bin, but you're all not ready for that with your boujee "ristorante" pizza and aldi Neetbix

Hey man, do you wanna eat actual food or eat your cats shit for sustenance, kill your fucking cat and eat it. In fact, steal your neighbors cats and eat them too, its literally free food. You could scour your town at night snatching up all the night prowlers then pack em in the freezer, make a meal plan like the Instagram people do. If you stick to it, you could buffer that food budget down quite a bit and guess what, it's real food, how about that! I don't see what the problem is here?

Well I cooked a 2kg pork belly on the weber kettle on the Monday public holiday last, put on a big meal for my family and my brothers family. The crackling was next level.

If you really want cheap food get steel cut oats, or plain oats that aren't steel cut (not the rolled oats in woolies) you can get a 25kg bag for $98. A single meal is about 60g or 1/3rd cup of dry oats, that one bag of oats will last 138 days of 3 meals a day. 3 bags will see you through an entire year if you can keep it dry and pest free.
Mix 4:1 water to oats plus a pinch of salt and bring to the boil, turn off the heat, place lid on pan, leave overnight and boil again before eating. Or boil it for 1 hour if you don't have all day.
Add whatever flavorings/seasonings/extras you can grow yourself or forage. Got chickens? Throw an egg in there or some cooked meat. Herb garden? Boil a bouquet of the herbs in the water before you add the oats. Put your own home grown honey on it for breakfast.

Buy oats.

With the milk, beef and cheese youre getting barely 100g of protein a day not considering the carbs you are eating are absolutely trash and the frozen vegetables have lost most of their nutrients. I also don't understand what barbarism leads to a person eating sliced cheese on beef and rice, you could at the very least getba block of cheese and shred it because it would be cheaper and fresher. Pretty much. As far as I know it's raw milk that's been pumped into bottles and then those bottles got submerged in really cold water. It kills most of the bacteria but I've had some of it stink a few days after opening especially if there's bits of cream still in the bottle, the other unhomogenised supermarket milks don't do that. The stink means it's real enough for me.

This, but i only do fresh meat every second day for cost reasons. Eggs are a good as meat for protein. Canned sardines or tuna are cheaper too.

You can do rice+lentils+eggs+spinach every breakfast and have a solid meal to get through a full day's work.

protip: if you go to the butcher, liver is still like $4 per kg. Buy an old meat grinder for $20 and turn it into mince. Cooked up with tomatoes and spices and it's really good. Better for you than ground beef too, you won't have any vitamin malnutrition problems if you do liver in a couple of meals each week.

yeah it sucks but until most of the boomers are dead around 2035 lose their voting bloc we're not gonna catch a break so we gotta chin up and make do

Was going to pop in and say shit is pretty bad here in shithole leafland as well.
The funny thing about it here is that people are dumb enough to shrug off a lot of the increases on cheaper items that percentage wise are fucking absolutely insane while complaining about something going up $1 when it was already $9.
But just the last few months some big jumps I've noticed percentage wise on shit that was $1-$1.33 going up to $2 is fucking wild.
Really basic common shit like Heinz beans going from $1ish on sale to regular $1.29 all the way up to $1.99. Some very small donuts that are common going from $1.29 to now being presented as '$2' flat as if it were a deal or a sale(similar to how up thread you guys also have some things that get presented as a flat dollar amount being a good deal)...just countless examples of that.
One problem here is that there's only a few huge corpos that collude to keep prices high.
Record profits though...so woohoo for them

Marginal is the same for most of them. It's just inflation fucking them over too.

Think about it, if you're in Zimbabwe and bread costs a million dollars but the bakery is just barely able to come out ahead, they'll be making "record" profits too.

For sure in normal countries and normal free economies where there is regular competition.
But not in Canada due to some absolutely insane gouging and effectively what are cartels taking advantage of people.
I don't know if other countries have the same word, but since the pandemic started it's been bad enough that we have a specific word for the food gouging - 'greedflation'
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63323636
I can actually go back on Amazon for example and compare the prices of things from 2020 till now and see them commonly up 50-100%. I wish I was someone who kept receipts from grocery stores to do the same thing.
