I want to move to Chicago once my lease expires in a few weeks. I'm mid 20s. I have no real connections, save for one friend of a friend who may be willing to let me crash on his sofa for a couple nights if need be. I will search for serving/bartending/sommelier jobs once I arrive. I will have about 10k cash. I plan to check into a hostel for a week while I gather my bearings. Anyone here have experience moving to unfamiliar cities? Advice is appreciated

probably a lot of opportunity for a smooth talker with charisma in a place like Chicago so good luck! I have to infer you’re a sociable person if you’re going to do that kind of work.

Do it now, or you'll never do it.

More career opportunities, more dating opportunities. I've lived in a mid-sized city in Oklahoma for my entire adult life. I am bored. I want more. The cost of living in Chicago doesn't appear intolerable. My 2 bedroom apt rent is now 1800 month to month. Signing a new lease would bring it down, but it would be soul crushing to remain in this town. I am open to alternative cities, though
