Short answer, I think Sergey is an ideas guy. I don't mean that in a disparaging way.

Longer answer: there is a place for an ideas guy. However, the problem is knowing when the ideas guy has to step aside and let people who know how to turn those ideas into something real. I think Sergey has the right vision. Most of us were drawn into this because we understood what he was talking about and had the same light bulb moment around the oracles being crucial for blockchains having any real utility. But I think we've seen that Sergey isn't the perfect businessman, and again I say this with a lot of respect for what he's achieved so far. He's still achieved some great things for Chainlink. Yes the price action has been absolute shit, whatever, but when you think about the reliability of Chainlink that part has been impressive. The kind of reliability Chainlink has had is something they should definitely get credit for. It's one of those things where no one really cares when software hums along without a hitch, but the moment there is a fuck up then all hell let's loose. What most people don't realize is how difficult it is to create a system where it "just works" 99% of the time. But anyway, bit off topic. So this is my take on the whole "not paying in LINK" thing and as per usual it's because Chainlink tends to be really ambiguous with their comms. My take is that not paying for LINK is specifically for early stage projects (Kemal actually explicitly mentions this when talking about BUILD) that don't have any liquidity to just buy up $100K, $1 million, whatever it is worth of LINK. So, the alternative that Chainlink is allowing it to strike a deal with these early stage projects to allocate a % of their token supply. This will all work and be fine (from our point of view) if these tokens end up being converted into LINK in a "reasonable" amount of time, and ultimately with stakers getting a cut. I realize that Chainlink has implied that BUILD rewards will be in the non-LINK tokens, but that's just my thinking on the whole thing anyway. It's always been the annoying thing with them, probably because they're so deathly afraid of Gary Gensler.
