>As you might imagine not too much Ottoman Empire silver made its way over here so I've never handled any personally
I can imagine, never saw any before myself, but we have a lot of berber silver stuff on sale over here from our former north african colonies (Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco..), but until recently they didn't abide to any hallmark system and it mostly was locally crafted stuff, so pretty hard to identify silver's purity and origin. And since berbers are known as scammers, most pieces i've seen auctionned on ebay end up with zero bids since it's pretty much impossible to tell if you will end up with real silver.
>I'm curious what the larger engraved tughra says

Yes, i don't blame you either way, it's up to the seller to stand their ground and fight back when this kind of shit is imposed onto them.
The government ofc will claim it's to fight muh invisible threat like ""terrorism"", when everybody knows in truth it's because they are making lists of stackers they can potentially loot later on.

But knowing they will face windmills during years long legal battles for no results deter the sellers from acting/protecting their customers. I understand their position too, but at some point you have to stand your ground and say "enough is enough, i wont enforce that crap on the ppl allowing me to put food on the table".

That said, the upward trend we've seen lately seems to stick. I think the markets are trying to price in an eventual stop of the Fed's rate hikes. Which will be extremely bullish for PMs once it happen, as no matter how hard they try to raise the interest rates, they can't catch up with inflation. Next meeting if the jews announce a +0BPS, i expect an immediate +5% response on gold and silver.

That thing will *just* melt silver / copper blends. Maybe go for something that'll reach 2200-2500 degrees.

Run the math on the 1400W (presume running constantly), or 2000w if you get a hotter unit, based onthe cost of a kWH in your area. Then math out how long you'll have to run it, and how much that'll add for cost to each thing you cast.

I'm guessing for most hobby use, electric will be the way to go.

kek, yeah I've passed on more than a few unmarked indian or north African pieces, might be worth the risk if I ever come across it in-person and can study it closely but online it's not wise. Happy hunting fren!

I managed to scrape up ~400oz of silver and a full ounce of gold in the last couple years. Wanting to balance out the ratio a bit better, but overall I'm very happy with my emergency fund. But I've got to start saving more for a house, so I'll probably be swinging back to Bitcoin and cash for now.

Hope we get the chance for more cheapies, but if not then I'll see you guys in Elysium.

It's a complex question with no easy answer. The smart play most of us are going for is a mix of low premium PMs, a bunch of numismatics, and a pinch of antique. This way you are covering several niches.

"Modern numismatic/collector" will move up independantly from the metal value given enough time, but their liquidity is limited, and you bear the risk of picking something who could become unpopular or worse : cringe inducing. But it could also pay off big time if you found the correct ratio of future appeal / limited minting. Keep in mind a shitload of those are being minted to capitalize on all kind of pop culture phenomenons, various trendy concepts, etc.. but how many will still be sought after in 20 years? Who will remember Shrek, Rick&Morty and other popslop like this? So be smart and pick intemporal, unpolitical series, and things who have a community or will leave a mark on society. 10% of your stack.
Ex : memecoins, british bestiaire, Perth stars' constellations,..

While low premium silver/gold (but still recognizable) will mostly follow metal's value, it makes you dependant on (manipulated) markets' fluctuations, but will remain very liquid no matter what. It should be the bulk of your stack : 70%.
Ex : 1kg silver bars, canadian maple leafs, generic buffalos, Armenia's noah's ark, Brittania, constitutional silver (avoid US at current prices)...

Antique PMs (it can be in the form of coins, but not only) have a very sweet spot, because just like numismatics it will go up over time, often at a slower pace, but steadily. The market is often well established, but you have the opportunity to find great deals any time of the year. This is where your autism can get rewarded. Better liquidity than modern numismatic (who is getting really overloaded), no risk of reprint, keep a basis of PM value, but move independantly from commodities' markets. 20% of your stack.
Ex : Reichsmark, old silverware, roman/greek coins,..
