bought my great uncles coin collection from my mother who was going to sell it to a shop. basically looked like a lifetime of a boomer putting silver coins from his change aside, there was over 30oz of junk silver. lots of other weird stuff too. he was collecting all nickels behind a certain date even the shit ones, I think he thought they were all silver as the war nickels were mixed in with the rest. he also had a copper penny stash with some copper scrap, thought that was weird.

this stuff was in a really small matchbox with a couple of 25 cent canadian notes. chipped ruby and what I'm pretty sure is a fake california gold token. what I'm wondering if anyone here knows is what the hell these tiny copper coins are. all five are the same, you can see both sides among them.

no. I am heavy into stacking both silver and gold, but this idea that silver is somehow going to increase in value to hundreds of times its current purchasing power is insane. Even if gold 10x's, and silver jumps to the historical 15:1, that puts 100 oz silver at 130k current USD, which is not enough to buy a house. Maybe you could make the argument that USD will devalue so much that anything worth 130k USD in today's dollars will be worth millions in future, devalued dollars, but that's hyperinflation, not an actual increase in buying power. Good morning lads, just got my batch of Japanese .950 silver cheapies delivered and it was even better than I hoped! 371.5g of solid .950 sterling plus a pair of some of the highest quality loaded-base shakers I've ever seen, very thicc gauge and unbelievably sturdy so I'm sure they'd yield 30+g each but I'm keeping them intact, they're way too nice to melt.

Being conservative and estimating a total weight at 430g of .950 works out to $328 melt value, the lot cost $68.80 total with shipping and tax or $5.24/ozt asw, feels good as always bros. Keep your eyes open and happy hunting anons!

Yeah, a fair amount was made and sold to Americans to bring back here in the post-war Occupied Japan period so it turns up in estates formed in the 1940s-50s. The shakers actually have reamed/cut threaded sockets and caps and are crazy sturdy, most hollow body shakers can be crushed like an aluminum can between 2 fingers but these are built like tanks. They need a vigorous polishing session but are flawless, unfortunately the other pieces are a bit dented up.

Familiarity with the hallmarks and manufacturing techniques of genuine pieces I guess, I have never handled any Dutch .950 and only a little French .950, frogbro here is way more experienced and might be able to evaluate a pic of the hallmarks on the pieces you're thinking about.

Forget silver correcting against the current USD value or gold ratio, and simply imagine that everyone's savings and assets were halved in value or worse over the course of a couple years. Whatever you can buy right now in pm values you can still buy with your pm values if that happens. It's not a fuckin moonshot. It's just a hedge against inflation. There is no garuntee pms will correct against any fiat currency, moreso if it's digital ones. This is the lowest risk investment you could possibly make. No it doesn't, it's not a store of wealth because no one treats it as such. 95% of people who buy into crypto buy into it with the hopes of it moonshotting overnight so they can off load it onto others and make fiat in the process. It's just gambling with extra steps. Intrinsic value? It exists as an abstraction on a computer somewhere, much like fiat currency currently does. But even fiat currency can exist in cash form. Maybe the technology was intended to have value through it's toted hard limit of 21 million, but the fact of the matter is that no one treats it that way. No one buys Bitcoin because it "stores value" like Gold or Silver does, no one even intends to ever actually use it as a currency.

My work has me tossing out decent amounts of copper wire/old propane line on occasion and I feel like it's just all going to waste. IDK how easy it is to melt your own metals though, or if copper is like aluminum where there's like 40 different grades of it. 15 seconds on Google tells me you can make a copper furnace for next to nothing if you're thrifty, but I'd rather just spend 200-300$ on a small smelter, if those even exist at that price point.
