Any opinions on full-stack engineers?

Posts like these are depressing. I make 200k and don’t have any skills like that. All I can do is general strategy and management and some excel stuff. I’d have to learn new shit just to take a 125k pay cut.

Then I think about this:
>befriend HR roastie
>get entry level HR job for $75k
>5 years later make $150k
>10 years later make $300k
>never have to learn any skills

Sounds comfy.
Do you ever worry you are easily replaceable?

>> No.54531164

Yes all the time. Deep down I know I’m not because I see my colleagues even smart ones make retarded decisions left and right and my biggest strength is helping people avoid retarded decisions. I have a lot of soft skills which I excel at. But my hard skills are very little, and that’s frightening. Somehow I’ve managed to work my way up and everyone always says how indispensable I am at every job I’ve had, but I think the truth is we are all replaceable and I’m no exception. Finding a new job has always been harder for me because of this lack of hard skills as well. Don’t get me wrong I obviously have built up some unique skills over the years but they’re not always transferable. It’s not like coding or salesforce expertise or something that can be used at almost any company.

Anon, youre giving people more credit than they deserve. Most people can't even learn SQL let alone be competent at it. The company that hired me went through a few people before me because they said they were good with SQL

no, but I did have a few projects on my resume though.

Did you negotiate your salary? I didn't negotiate mine since it was my first data analyst job. I figured I should get my foot in the door first and negotiate salaries later one.

Lucky. Learning Tableau turned out to not be all that useful for me as my company uses Power BI.

What have you been doing for work so far?

>> No.54531374

I've learned a lot of power query lately in my effort to make money off of crypto
hasn't worked at all

What steps do i need to use this to get a job?
i have a bachelors in me

Learn sql first, any variant is fine, but I recommend sql server using t-sql syntax. Then learn Tableau or Power BI, it doesn’t matter which one. Don’t spend too much time learning those though. They aren’t as important as mastering SQL. You can practice your SQL skills on hackerrank. But I’d recommend you get started on a project. Think of some project that would use both sql and dashboard. Something that uses sql to clean and transform the data from an excel file and then make some graphs out of the cleaned data using dashboard like tableau. Finally, prep for both behavioral questions and technical questions. Emphasize on behavioral. For technical, google entry level data analyst interview questions. Usually anything beyond subqueries and window functions won’t be asked in technicals for entry level interviews. Lastly, emphasize on being able to tell a story with your data.

The toughest part is actually starting on a project since most data are already clean or formatted properly. You can just follow along project videos on youtube and use them as your own. But it’s strongly recommend that you get some project on your resume or portfolio as it helped me learn way more than what I learned through online courses. Also get used to googling things and browsing through stack overflow.
