What do you guys think of newell brands? They are a consumer discretionary that obviously did bad in last few years but have quality brands like quickie, sharpie, coleman, elmer glue, rubbermaid. I think the coming years will be a great time to accumulate while its beat down but I'm not sure with whales like carl icahn buying that it will be mitt romney'd. I'm sure they are just itching real hard to shut it down and make us buy glue or storage goods from some chinese startup called "xinjiboofuucahminh" or something like that from some chinese junk shop with no customer service or quality like amazon. Value trap? Not sure. Maybe its better to stick to big tobacco for now. People will always want big brand poison inhalents.

What would be a good mixed portfolio of about 10 to 15 holdings that
>at least four of them pay a monthly dividend
>the rest pays a quarterly dividend at least
>have option chains (preferably weeklies, too)
>are not buy-write ETFs
>can be seen as "forever holds"
I'm thinking:
>SPY / QQQ / IWM for broad exposure to the US economy
>TLT / TLH / IEF for US gov debt exposure (all monthly dividends)
>HYG / JNK / PFF for high yield debt exposure (all monthly dividends)
>AAPL / MSFT / WMT / KO / NVDA as individual holds
I feel like missing one or two sector ETFs that cover basic shit from everything to toilet paper and soap.
The six debt ETFs from above could be consolidated in two seperate categories, making room for about for more holdings.

Also, 20% of each holding would be dedicated to perpetual buy-write covered call strategy.

Any suggestions?

I'm lazy today. In fact I've been lazy all weekend. My yard needs mowing and a few other odds and ends done round the house but frankly I just don't give a damn about any of it right now. Perfect weather for being outdoors to. Just tired. I'm 40 and I'm just tired of it all. 14 years and I can just not give a damn about going to work either. Toss my alarm clock into the bin. Been listening to that "beep, beep, beep" sound since I was a kid. Glorious day when I don't gotta listen for it anymore.

Maybe I should DCA in but what if this is the chance to load up on it?

Was thinking of making one of my own with some free API and using the calculations of those 8 pillars Everything Money yt channel uses, maybe add Magic Formula, cagr, Altman score is maybe covered and then have big list of non shit companies I would go more deeply in and calc DCF FCF, read articles of analysts...

How do you properly hedge against tail risk?
Aside from a black swan event or commodity shock, prices tend to follow the normal distribution over time. But you can also use them as leverage to avoid putting down that much capital too. 100 SPY shares is expensive. Selling a long-dated atm put and buying an atm call to create a synthetic future gives you 100 delta of effective exposure, and is basically risk-free as long as the counterparty doesn't do an early exercise (which if you have 60-90 days left shouldn't happen)
But since you effectively have 100 shares, you then write additional calls or puts against your position to wheel additional income

Dealing with depressed people is incredibly frustrating, but I try and be patient with them. One of my employees is in a chronic state of depression over "the way the world is". I desperately want to smack him in the face and tell he to stop being a bitch, but I know that's not going to help anything. I just sort of laugh when he whines to me about that sort of stuff and tell him that if he thinks the world is bad now, he has no idea how much worse its going to get. I have a couple of personal friends that are depressed as well. Their depression is based almost entirely by their do nothing attitude. My one friend is 35 and is depressed because he lives with his parents but the guy has money. I keep telling him to just get his own place and then the conversation kind of just dies. I don't get it. But yeah telling people to "hit the gym bro" "why don't you get a hobby bro" are fucking retarded. You have to work out the demons in your head first before you'd ever get the motivation to do something like regularly visit the gym.

Intraday trading is fucking awful, very stressful. Some people can swing it (no pun intended), but there are loads of people who lose money and never manage to break even. Even fewer people can beat the index.

>had I gone into tqqq and just left it alone I could have made 30%
Well sure, but how would you have known? There's a 50:50 chance the market will go up another 30% before it goes down another 30%. Who the fuck knows? Don't forget, 8-12% is a normal ANNUAL return. If you had a 30% month, you're almost certainly going to have a huge month in the shitter too. The biggest thing is trade psychology and risk management.

>I took around 60 trades and have a win rate of 60%
Seems pretty good to me. What assets are you trading? Just etfs on indices? Have you tried trading CFDs on indexes? Try it out on paper, see how you do. If you can manage a 60% win rate and meet/exceed the broad market index, and do it consistently for 6-8 months, I'd legit consider seeing if you can get on board with a prop firm that has a management style you like. If you have a proven, winning system, you just need more capital to scale up and they can help you do that, as long as you can keep performing

absolutely thats why im so curious. its not my first time in the market ive got bust, literally negative money 3 times since 2020, but also had enormous wild swings. gme took me from 5 digits to 7 and I literally lost every single penny. I came back twice and lost it all on options trying to repeat it and it worked then I would quickly lose everything in like 10 trades.
>What assets are you trading? Just etfs on indices?
now that I came back last month im literally just trading SPY and other stocks intraday when I see that SPY is going to bounce up. gme, tqqq, msft, dyllf(otc uranium becareful) at most Id hold the day before and sell the next day or two if my position was down but I always use stop losses now and focus on momentum using the RSI at different time frames and the macd.
>CFDs
im american im not sure if I have access to those here. I wonder if I get on IBKR they will let me? my next goal is to survive another two more months and than take another average of my monthly returns to see if I truly have what it takes or I just caught an uptrend and took advantage of it(lucky). I feel like I can make it, eventually, and I hope I will defeat the 90% lose 90% within 90 days slogan
>make it 6-8 months and do a prop firm

Well look at it from their perspective: sure they can lend you $50,000 to trade, but if you're likely to blow up your account or be exposed to large amounts of risk to eke out a 6% gain, then a loss on their part is eventually guaranteed. It's all a numbers game, which is how you should treat your trading. I see some which have a "high water mark", eg not only do you have to increase your balance, but you have to increase it beyond the ATH every month (eg if you go from $10k to $12k, then drop down to $8k, they don't care about a 50% win on your account balance if don't break that $12k again)
I'm not a shill, but the one firm I am aware of is Maverick Trading, I watch a few of their people on YT and they seem to be pretty lenient and competent. They have a forex and equity branch, see if either of them appeal to you; even if they don't, you can work towards their requirements and get some better personal management going.

Also try analyzing your trades in blocks, eg every 20 trades, look at your numbers and see your drawdown, % returns, etc. Don't do it per trade, and don't set an annual goal like "I NEED to hit 4% return this month to hit my numbers" because then you get into taking riskier trades. Just keep at it anon

>I hope I will defeat the 90% lose 90% within 90 days slogan
It's taken me 3 years to lose 30%, so it looks like I'm on the right track.

>I saw you mention the RSI, what other indis do you use?
I need to incorporate ATR ive seen others use it and it looks fascinating and very meaningful for daily movements when referencing larger time frames. I basically just trying to gauge momentum when I buy or sell I want it to go straight up or down and then get out during the fuck around retest/resistance areas so ill get out or put a new stop really close to price action if I think things are stalling or going to turn around on me. I use patterns predominantly and fibonacci sequence. everything I learned was from yt from rockyoutcrop and tradespotting channels and having starred at charts since 2020 seeing how technicals are supposed to be used was like learning a new way to describe things and sort of made me more exacting on entries/exits if that makes sense.

I'm planning to put £6000 into these ETFs once the market opens:
50% SPXP (S&P 500)
30% PRIW (Global developed markets 1.5k holdings)
5% EQQQ (Nasdaq 100)
5% PRIE (EU large + mid cap )
5% CUKX (FTSE 100 UK)
5% IITU (S&P 500 IT sector)

so my plan is putting 6k into these and depositing 100-200 a month and just holding it for as long as possible.

I've moved across the country 3 times for promotions, the trick is to only own a cheap bed, a TV, and a PC. Buy a new mattress when you move, ship the TV and PC to the new apartment.

I have to move in a year, and I have quite a bit of stuff. Should I just sell all that shit when I end up moving? The only thing that's honestly worth shipping to my new address would be my gaming chair and probably my crates for storage.

looks fine. long term index investing is the only guaranteed way of making it
exact sector allocations come down more to personal preference, as long as you have some broad exposure you're more or less set

Here watch this video on how to use ATR. Note that we give zero fucks about the output; all we care about is the single current value.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=086ozcHDZPw

Using SPY as an example, let's suppose you think the RSI is overbought and we want to short. Currently the ATR on default settings is 5.50 (dollars moved per day, on average). Let's say we shorted just before market closed. We take profit at 1.0x ATR (409.19 - 5.50) = 403.69, and we stop loss at 1.5x ATR (409.19 + 1.5 x 5.50) = 417.44
If you have a balance of 10,000 you can only afford to risk 2% on a bad trade. So 2% is $200, which means that the ATR on the SL against you needs to = 200 / (5.5 * 1.5) = 24.24 units traded. Since we can't trade fractional equities, we short 24 SPY, TP at 403.69, SL at 417.14. Once you enter that trade, you let it finish one way or the other. Do not exit early.
Once your TP is hit, you close half your shares (to 12) and then you've guaranteed profits at this point. Now you just move your TP to break even and keep adjusting it as price moves in your favor (I usually set it based on current ATR).

Dude. I just buy and then numbers move, sometimes with me, sometimes against me; but I’ll always keep putting money in. Why you trying to make it so complicated?

oh neat, thats actually way less complicated that I thought it would be. do you ever change the look back period at all? I keep the RSI the same as out of the box but if 1 day or larger is doing X direction then ill use smaller time frames to get a "tip of the spear" look at things and honestly sor tof bet against myself once im in a play. "what hasnt been tested yet? really going to bounce asap without multiple touches on smaller time frames? when is the last time we hit this price, what did it do back then? matching time to price to indicators too sort of like a history and look for divergences. ill have to include atr itll make things a lot cleaner to hypothesize or maybe even sus out where volatility spikes might occur, thanks

For ATR I just use the default settings, I try to trade the daily charts. Also look into the concept of a "baseline" indicator. Something as simple as a 20 MA can function as one but the idea is that when the current candle crosses and CLOSES past the baseline, that's a long or short signal; you use other indicators to confirm the trend.
So you could eg wait for the RSI to trigger as oversold, then confirm it with Close > 20, Close > 50, and 20 > 50, then enter a trade.

I'm working on getting the right set of indicators and the inputs for them; this has been a several month process of backtesting and trying to automate said backtesting. Then I need to forward test it as well. From what I can tell, different asset classes can use different indicators. For example the set you use on SPY would work quite differently on UUUU, as well as Gold. Metals tend to trend quite strongly so eg you could set a SL at 1.25x ATR instead so you quickly exit a bad trade before it trends too far against you (gold trades apparently work better without a baseline too).

Anyways check out the NNFX channel I linked, dozens of really good videos there.
