desu im sad to see gold spike so much, I want to buy some more coins. Got some new credit cards coming in the mail with sign up bonuses, wanted to get another few oz's at atleast sub 2k.

Currently own like 7 oz of gold, sitting on ~300k in cash earning 4.7% in vanguard money market. Want to allocate around half of that to land in the future. Been selling some puts on PBR / VALE.

I hate governments and fiat so much its unreal. Working hard all your life to save, to have half the money stolen in taxes, then the rest progressivley eroded through fraud (inflation).

You see, i'm a TCG dealer. And often time, i buy cards i need from private sellers. Some happen to be british. Legally speaking, ever since 2021 and the new (((laws))) made to exclude the UK from trading with us to punish them for the brexit, everything they import or export is taxed an additional 20%. Even though the VAT was already applied beforehand lol. And then extra customs + postal services fees apply, which are often as expensive -if not more- than the taxes.
So let say i wanna purchase a card worth 20 bux, the brit seller will have to fill a custom form, glue it onto the envelop and i'll have to pay like 10-12 bux in various fees upon reception.

When this retardness started, i contacted the dudes i was buying from, asking them to send me the envelop as a simple, normal envelop. Like a postcard from holidays. After all, a pokemon or MTG card is impossible to identify by the customs. Never will the customs open all envelops below 20g just to check if fucking TCG cards are within.
I thought it would be no problemo. I myself never fill any custom form for the orders i send to Switzerland/UK/Norway/etc.. and never ONCE my envelops were seized by customs, out of thousands of them.
How big was my surprise and disappointment when all i got was moaning and boohooing

The worst part about this all, is it's up to them to declare the items' value on the custom form. For TCG cards, the value is completely arbitrary. Technically it's whatever you like, so they could simply write up zero. The envelop contain no bills. The customs don't know if it contain anything more than paper, they don't know the value, they don't even know if a transaction occured. All this is self-inflicted by the seller. I should screenshot some of the mails i received trying to justify making the custom form at any cost. You can almost smell the fear while reading it. I really don't get it. Custom cops have an incredible range of rights, i know because i did the exams to become a custom officer after univ (transportation laws spe). This is also why they are the most corrupt usually.

But it's not so much a matter of legality but of ability to enforce it. Imagine how many ppl it would require to open all the mails passing through every day lol. For UK, the ratio would be like 100K envelop per custom officer per day to open.
