a stop loss isn't hedging risk, it's more like taking a cheap spread in the opposite direction as the trade you are about to make. Like if i wanted to get spy 412c this morning for 100$ one hedge would be spxs commons or one call on it that's 20$, another would be 410/411 credit spread for 20$ both would net you your original 100$ you spent on the long call so if the play turns against you at least you walk away break even. Hedging on strictly common stock would be selling calls, or long puts 90dte+.
