Because number went down, so they use it as a punching bag not realizing its still 4x higher than before the printers were turned on in 2020. Then ironically one of their criticisms is people buy it because its price goes up. No shit.

And most of the bullshit about "relearning economic principles" is stupid shit like Celsius or FTX which isn't even crypto, its just centralized, fake-banks that have more in common with trad finance not crypto.

What's incorrect here? I must say though that 251 is correct but stupid because the reverse is also true:
>Sovereign money generally does not perform all the functions of crypto currencies as effectively as crypto assets, such as bitcoin

>> No.54436950

These are true statements couched with qualifying language. "Mostly", "generally", "can be". It's absolutely true crypto assets are "mostly" speculative investment vehicles, or that they "generally" underperform as money compared to cash. Everyone knows most crypto projects are scammy bullshit, and everyone here only cares about the tech insofar as to make a decent wedge off of it.

There are about 10 layer 1 projects with genuine and competent development behind them with real potential, and maybe 200 legitimate subprojects building on top of them. The rest are outright scams. Most tokens are unregistered securities, most DAOs are wholly controlled by the issuing team, most on chain voting is totally rigged. Etc. Etc. Crypto is by and large, a big mess. Getting upset the government has the temerity to notice this is frankly fucking ridiculous.

Except the examples they love to reference, like FTX, are centralized entities, traditional financial institutions, not crypto. And if a centralized entity calls itself a DAO, that doesn't make it one. You're criticizing the original because knock offs exist.

Also, government money includes the venuzualian bulivar and the zimbabwean dollar. So if you want to include shitcoins you have to include shit fiat too. Or if you want to compare apples to apples, btc vs usd, zoom out and tell me which one is "underperforming"

>Regulators
Here's a tale of two Ponzi schemes.
>the original Ponzi
In the days before there was any regulation Charles Ponzi set up a fraudulent scheme in January 1920. A handful of journalists, lawyers and politicians got together in an informal basis and managed to shut it down in 6 months.
>Bernie Madoff
The SEC was set up and staffed by professionals with the job of uncovering fraud and helping the public. In the 1980s Bernie Madoff sets up a fraudulent scheme. It runs for years and years despite the SEC getting lots of evidence that it was a scam. Finally in 2008 it collapses on itself. Despite there being an actual apparatus to uncover fraud, the scheme lasted for 25 years.
