One of the earliest written records of futures trading is in Aristotle's Politics. He tells the story of Thales, a poor philosopher from Miletus who developed a "financial device, which involves a principle of universal application". Thales used his skill in forecasting and predicted that the olive harvest would be exceptionally good the next autumn. Confident in his prediction, he made agreements with local olive-press owners to deposit his money with them to guarantee him exclusive use of their olive presses when the harvest was ready. Thales successfully negotiated low prices because the harvest was in the future and no one knew whether the harvest would be plentiful or pathetic and because the olive-press owners were willing to hedge against the possibility of a poor yield. When the harvest-time came, and a sharp increase in demand for the use of the olive presses outstripped supply (availability of the presses), he sold his future use contracts of the olive presses at a rate of his choosing, and made a large amount of money.

They’ll start moving again tonight. Gold has been tamped down and we will probably see silver tamped down breaking 23.50 but meeting strong 22.50 resistance. Gold ought to crab between 1940-1990. Commodities are traded across 3 different markets in different time zones but we do get a small weekend Friday and Saturday. Opening back up at 6pm tonight. Western markets have been trading lower on gold/silver so we ought to expect a small pop and then Jews wake up and shut it down.

When did all of that happen? The question that comes to my mind now is what happens to us? The everyday people who purchase metals to escape their failing currency. Most especially those who claim they can use the face value of govt. minted coins to leave the country with less than 10k without their metals bring seized? Because going off of that article shows there really is no work around those in power. Just going to jump to the conclusion to accumulate mass instead of "security".

So it's governments in general minting coins with a set denomination and then setting out to punish regular people for going by said denomination. The only time the government is going to follow the denomination they set in place is if they are taking your PMs in a "buyback" program, any other time expect them to fuck you.

Odd, i had a dream recently,..
i was deep underground in some kind of weird huge open space cavern, and running somewhat vertically from top to bottom, of this cavern was a big long narrow "wall" (maybe one or two feet thick) of what was a essentially a remaining "slice" of what this space in the earth used to be completely made up of before it somehow became an open cavern through some kind of natural geological events

so this "wall" was itself formed of probably thousands upon thousands what looked like separate boulder-sized chunks of earth and rock, adhering together by gravity, pressure, static cling or something.
I could faintly see the thin line of a gap in between each chuck where it interlocked with all the other interlocking puzzle-piece like chunks around it. i could see a sort of light or hunt of colour showing through these thin gaps

this entire space within int this now open cavern was at one time filled with the material that the "wall" was made up of.
this was being explained to me by my "guide/companion" somehow.
at the same time i was observing it and deducing my own conclusions based on what i was seeing
this subsurface space was massive. i think there was also floura and fauna about, with running water, grass, tress and such like an underground secret green glade.

so, this "wall",.....

the "wall",...
as I said, it was made up of all these many thousands of separate but interlocking boulder-sized chunks of rocken earth,...
and interlaced like a thread or blood veins in the human body, were these literal veins of ore bodies,...
along these veins, there were minerals, crystalline structures,.. and raw elemental base metals,
there was a raw vein of pure gold ore running like a thread sort of vertically/diagonally across this "wall" structure.
within my sight, there were hundreds of various sized shiny glistening lustrous buttery-yellow raw gold nuggets. big ones, small ones, medium sized ones. they were all just a natural part of the "wall" structure.
whereby they just made up a narrow banded portion of the many thousands of various sized interlocking puzzle piece boulder sized chunks of rocky earth making up this "wall"
it was a vivid dream and a surreal scene to behold. My mind was racing with fleeting thoughts and ideas about how i might extract and carry off some of this ore without collapsing the "wall" and without offending my companion or any of the inhabitants I could sense were there but had not seen clearly,...
it was like an Indian Jones, Journey to the Center of the Earth Sci-Fi adventure,..
so interesting, exciting and exhilarating

and then, at some point I woke up from the dream

To speak on hunting ore… I was in a park and I’ve pulled up a bunch of iron ore right in the surface there before, my machine started to ring silver. I started digging. Found a bunch of iron for awhile until… boom silver checked it three times. I pulled all the ore out. I have a 8x8ft hole at this point. I go to expand the excavation site on the south side. I find a piece of a mirror. It broke and shattered all over the original dog and then collected in the veins of the iron ore. It was a minuscule amount of silver the whole time setting it off.

Love me junk. Bought my first tube of Canuckistan dollars last month. Premium was a bit better than pure 999, but not by much and only because it was on sale. Glad I scooped up $100fv of walkers for 18.5x, but now they're going for 23x and I can't make myself pull the trigger. Even basic bitch quarters are selling for that much,. Looks like I'm going to have to give up on the dream of filling the box.

It's only going to get more expensive from here. I can't tell anymore whether we should wait for another dip or if things really will descend into an unrecoverable shit spiral by the end of the year

Love Junk myself, my LCS sells at 20xfv which considering today's premiums isn't that bad. Only downside is he has a really small stock and only sells what he has on hand. Regularly sells Peace and Morgans for $20 though.

It really tempted me too. One of the few PMs I wanted just to keep and pass on forever - never to be sold unless hard times demanded it. Still, the price was impractical for me at this point.

yeah i looked into it when you posted it. too expensive and out of stock anywhere near me anyway. I need to get focussed on stacking for mass instead of collecting beautiful coins I guess. Got too many coins and not enough bars and almost 0 junk.

First part reminded me of a premise I'm sure I'll never act on for a game. Second part reminded me of a dream I had of lucking out with panning and sharing some of the wealth with /pmg/. Funny how the second is actually more realistic. Slightly.

Anyone know if pelican cases are safe to store silver in (wont react/melt)? im thinking of using the foam padding that comes with it, while also sitting in those plastic tubes

Interesting insights. I've only been at this for about a month and have 3 ounces out and about.
2 just for display near the computer. 1 getting an interesting bronze layer on its top as it sits atop cords near another computer - probably the heat doing something?
I've used the foil + baking soda method to remove tarnish from one coin and shine up another. Would that work for your bars?

I'm mostly sitting on my paychecks right now, waiting to see if the bank failures were just a temporary spike or a sign of worse things to come. Been stacking for a couple years now so if things really go south fast I'm still fairly secure. Best not to panic I think.

Not even pointing to what happened to egypt and lebanon this year made him think having some savings outside of the fiat ecosystem was good?
Or Japan and the USD and OPEC? It's basically the money equivalent of having emergency food - but unlike food that can expire the general PM price has been going up so you can sell it one day for a profit.
Odds are you presented all those things but on the off-chance something there hasn't been mentioned I post.

Only 1 oz here so far since buying bars doesn't save me that much. Later one when I have more 1 oz I'll opt for bars. Maybe. I do wonder how much I can trust multi-ounce bars as demand increases, you know?

Fair enough. I do the same thing, but make sure you've got a good emergency reserve of cash somewhere as well for cases like this.
