/biz/ help a wagie decide something here.
So I have 2 job offers.
Job 1
>Customer support for software company
>48k and they only pay half of my premium for healthcare
>Fully remote, don't gotta do a thing for commute
>If I accept I start this monday
>not as technical and demanding, basically just help troubleshoot software issues for customers
>could probably get a 2nd WFH job

Job 2
>Tier 2 IT at a hospital
>58k + full benefits
>commute is 20ish minutes by car, and i don't have car yet so I'd have to buy one eventually
>I had already accepted their offer and was supposed to start this week but due to some hold up with my background check, I likely wouldn't start till the 10th of april and their communication has been dog shit
>better benefits, better qualifications that could lead to better opportunities and better pay, but not WFH and much more technically and physically demanding

I also have a daughter on the way, WFH means I could spend more time with her. Cost of living here isn't crazy so I can do fine with 48k, but the main plan is that I could try to get another WFH job and work them simultaneously and almost double my income. But this isn't guaranteed and could jeopardize my original position. I'm seriously on the fence about it. What should I do?

>>54380867
opt for the job where you can spend time with your wife's daughter more

>> No.54380906

>>54380867
commuting sucks balls 20 mins but you also have to wake up early and shower, get dressed, poop, eat breakfast. All really depends on cost of living and if ~$7k + half benefits is that important. Also being an IT wagie at a hospital sounds like shit. Having to wear a mask all the time probably

>> No.54380911

WFH is always superior especially if you double dip.

>> No.54380964

>>54380881
This is huge as I plan on homeschooling my kids and being a better parent than mine were.
>>54380906
Definitely am not excited for commuting. I've worked at a hospital before so it's not too bad but definitely no where near as comfy as WFH, but yes the mask thing is annoying and I am constantly worried about another scamdemic hitting. I am NOT vaxxed (I always lie about it), but if another one hits that's gonna force me to get the jab I'm liable to lose my job.
>>54380911
How realistic do you think holding 2 WFH jobs would be? For the WFH job, i would be the ONLY customer support guy on the team. They plan on getting another one eventually but for a while it'll be just me.

>>54380867
What medical record system does the Hospital use? If it is Epic, go with Job 2 and get certified in one of their apps, start consulting 2 years later for 3-5x your pay and if you pick the right app, 100% WFH.

>> No.54381011

>>54380867
I wfh and I think I'd take a 10k pay cut if I had 2 options where the wfh option is 10k less pay. Thats just me though. Some people like the human interaction in office. I like human interaction but I also like being able to make my meals here during the day - not eat out.

It's really up to you because you will probably save about 5k by not commuting (I just pulled that number out of thin air)

>> No.54381070

>>54380987
Couldn't I already do that with WFH anyway?
>>54381011
With insurance and gas, 5k sounds about right. Plus the time I save as well. I'm not worried about food as I frequently fast for long periods.

>> No.54381126

if you accept both OP i'll work the remote one for half the pay

>> No.54381319

Per hours worked, the first one is way more money. Like you said, you can either pick up another job or spend time with your daughter (the daughter already answers that you should pick the first) instead of rotting away all day at the hospital

True. I think I'm pretty much set on accepting the WFH job. I'd still like more opinions but seems like everyone I've talked to even outside of here agree the WFH job sounds better.

>>not as technical and demanding,
first time? you don't know shit. I worked as a tech support helpdesk call wagie for a large company. They'll treat you like a goddamn slave and QA your ass. You gotta be
>support, like a waiter lever of service and being social
>do some bullshit bugfixes outside your level
>QA'd every week with some faggot breating down your neck.
It is not comfy at all. Ironically, the only thing that makes it tolerable are the customers calling in, some are very nice.

This is my 3rd IT/Tech support job and would be my 3rd WFH job. I know what it's like. None of my experience has been like what you described.

I’m not asking for advice on how the job is gonna be, but I’m weighing the pros and cons. I could also be overworked and treated like shit at the hospital job, I don’t know what either will be like until I start them. But I have experience in both realms, hence how I qualified for them in the first place. This the first time I had to make a choice like this as usually the choice is easy (take the best paying) but now wfh, longevity, benefits, qualifications/titles are a factor.

That extra 10k won't do much if you have to spend at least 3 thousand of it on a car. And probably 5-6k on a good used car.
I assume you're not foolish enough to by a new car.

I work as a tech support in europe. I would rather take the support job.The car will cost you around 400 a month(calculate price you buy-price you will sell, summer tires, winter tires, taxes, insurance, gas, speeding tickets, repairs not to mention that cortisol levels rise after +20min comute. And if you do your job well you could learn other skills as you work or even sneak in some freelance work and spend time with your daughter. Also do not underestimate the cost of eating and drinking out with work colleagues. If you can use chatgpt you could have even more time. Homeoffice kicks ass. Outside was snowing and I enjoyed a nice hot coffee as I did my work

I'd take the $58k job.
recession looks like it'll still last a couple years.
that $58k job will have better job security, people will see you, like you, less likely to fire you, and the industry itself should be able to continue paying you that rate.
and yea, kids are alot of work, great/rewarding investment, but you're always buying new shit you didn't know you needed for them until they're like 4 years old.
The other thing is, not sure how far along into your career you are, but securing a higher base is just better leverage for all future salaries in different companies.
so, all in all man, I think you made the right choice, even though their HR is shit.

man europeans are just so neurotic.
worse then a pink-hair white girl.
I read that and is oh my god, I'm getting a second-hand panic attack, but your only describing trivial car maintenance.
do you have benzos or weed over there? because either would really help with all that anxiety.

I won't be doing all the work, the wife will likely carry the majority of that load. But yes, benefits for the kid is a huge concern right now.
>>54383016
This is also a huge concern. The 58k is probably going to be the new 48k soon. However I could mitigate this with a secondary income stream.
