Interesting… doesn’t this mean the 500 pound silver kilo is always worth at least 500 pounds? Silver is like £0.60 per gram right now (£600/kg), even if it dropped in half couldn’t you redeem the 500 pound coin for £500?

in theory yes, the face value of the coin will be what it can be exchanged for. But I don't think anyone has ever tried to exchange a £500 coin that costs £1k to buy. But yep the face value on a legal tender coin should be valid even if silver goes to nothing. Love my kilo brit coin.

Dude, if you're going to bleat on about radioactive gold, at least fucking understand what you're saying. All, and I mean all elements in the universe can be radioactive. That's because the building of them is the collection of protons, neutrons and electrons. Isotopes are just variants of elements and most elements have at least one stable phase. 198Au will eventually decay into 197Au because its radioactive form bumps into other particles, ejecting its unstable neutrons and electrons until the Au element becomes stable. If you want to learn more about it, just look up 'Island of Stability'.

> I’m general, that seems to be the reason why bullion coins always have such ridiculously low face values: that no one actually uses them as currency.
Germany, of course says a firm “Nein!” to this concept (though you could argue that commemorative coins are different from bullion):
The 5 and 10 Mark coins always had less silver in them than their face value. But when silver price rose, that changed and apparently German autism gets triggered when a coin is worth more than what’s stamped on it.
So they went from 900 to 650.
And with euro coins only the 10€ are silver, 5€ are Steel (and plastic). And of course the same issue happened with the 10€ coins too.
But on the other hand: thus they can be a great option for German stackers! Sometimes, they’ve got among the lowest premiums, so they’re actually cheaper than our VATd 999 bullion per Oz, so you can build mass for your max max shizo future!
But if the shizos are wrong and silver becomes indeed worthless, you can always use them at their 10€ face value, no matter their silver content.
Just beware when shopping!
Often they carry a numismatic premium and don’t fall for the debased ones. Those of course have a way too high premium. But if the stars align just right, 10€ coins are great!

This is why currencies with fixed exchange rates are stupid. If you have coins with 5g of silver they should be worth 5g of silver, however much that happens to be. When you have a fixed exchange rate of like 1$ = 1g or a fixed gold : silver ratio you create arbitrage opportunities because the coins eventually become over or undervalued in terms of real gold or silver price.

>Sword Forged in Spain of the finest steel,
"Made in toledo" or sth. stuff is usually kinda crap.
Spain is not known for producing quality but for having produced quality in the past.
The main problem of "swords" from Spain is the lack of decent blade geometry and the possibility of not even having a decent tang.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGTQLB1VQrA

Measure the blade thickness at the base and close to the tip, if it's the same you can assume that actually trying to use it might result in sth. along these lines:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntXkuqZ2Fo4
For European swords the blade should be 50% or less thickness close to the tip than the base, which is why most replica handle terribly.

For some relatively low cost swords actually functional look for sth. by

Kingston Arms Atrim models
Hanwei Thinker models

The older European stuff is very underappreciated, production methods were similar to what the Japanese used later, the problem we got is that a European Katana equivalent will have spent 1000 years in the ground before we we were able to look at it.
And polishing them to even be able to see the pattern of the metal was considered a no-go by archeologists and therefor research very recent on the subject.

The market had much less decent stuff a few years ago, and still regret not simply getting the Albions I've handled and liked instead of custom Atrim-swords that didn't come close to meeting expectations, still keeping up to date on what's available in case I can't resist to buying new stuff.

I just watched episode 2. I think the fantasy world gold coin being appraised at $200 could be for a few reasons: maybe it's not pure gold, not 1oz, or maybe the PMC was lying about it's worth to rip her off. He did seem eager to get paid in gold coins going forward.

But holy crap, 2 episodes in and this anime has become top of my favorites because of so much awesomeness:
> MC withdraws a suitcase of cash from the bank to fund her gold stacking operation, specifies cash so it'll be untraceable
> MC hires private military contractors in Mexico to supply her with guns and training
> Anime actually shows realistic gun training, and gives real gun safety instructions
> MC realistically can't hit the target to begin with, and eventually is able to through training
> MC arms herself with a subcompact conceal pistol, a machine pistol as a primary, and a revolver as a backup.
> Based anime says what the IRL guns are: Walther PPS, Berretta 93R, S&W 940, and says accurate specs. Even talks about the tactics of using 3 round burst with the machine pistol.
> MC mentally prepares herself to kill human bandits in the other world if needed. Concludes there's no reason to spare bad guys trying to kill her, and to show no mercy because they could kill others later. "they must be exterminated, only a moron would do otherwise"
> MC actually internet researches the feudal system, travelling in medieval Europe, and how nobility ranking works in order to prepare for her gold stacking/Earth goods selling operation
This anime is so based, I really hope it doesn't get worse down the line. I love how it's being so realistic and un-PC. I hope she unloads a mag on a jogger...I mean bandit.

Would be very based if not fake:

>The PMC said a gold coin was worth ~200 dollars but in episode three 1 gold is worth 100,000 yen. Its maddening
I watched the 3rd episode, I figured it out, it's not inconsistent. The PMC in episode 2 says the fantasy world gold coin was appraised to be worth $200 in that karat right now, so it's not a pure gold coin. In episode 3 the MC says judging from her discussion with the nobles, one fantasy world gold coin has the buying power equivalent of 100,000 yen in the fantasy world. Episode 2 said $1 = 130 yen, so 100,000 yen is $769. So those fantasy world gold coins have different buying powers on Earth ($200) and the Fantasy World ($769). (This is according to the dubbed dialog, I'm not sure if the sub says differently. I don't have access to the sub right now to double check)

Episode 3 was quite hilarious:
> MC does a "Russian car Insurance" scam by pretending to be ran over by the noble's carriage so she can meet them
> MC is 18 years old, but everybody in the fantasy world thinks she's younger than the 13 year old daughter with a massive rack because MC is Asian which they've never seen before, and the 13 year old is European-like.

Bought my first piece of silver few days ago. It's not much but I really enjoyed spending a few hours looking in different antique stores for well priced silver. I think I did ok, was marked at $70aud, got it down to $45aud. Weighs 1.2oz. I'm still really new to this but there has to be a way to accumulate silver at a better price.

Is it worth just buying coins or bullion? I was really looking for something that the seller would have missed but according to the few vendors I spoke to, all the sellers are priced in on silver.

I'm gonna start looking in different shops once a week anyway, it was fun.

It's important to calculate the price you're paying over spot to make sure you're getting a good deal.

That's gorgeous but looks to be on the expensive designer bullion side. Are you sure you didn't overpay too much?

I'm actually in a group on Facebook that trades with people across Canada. Basically to avoid premiums from bullions. I got the 10oz bars for an absolute steal almost spot price. I highly recommend finding one of these groups in your area. Lots of great people selling at great prices.

IDK I’ve only tried ebay and estate auctions online. Had some luck with plaster weighted items like candelabras and knives others have been reluctant to gamble on.
I agree it is enjoyable walking around shopping/hunting.
How familiar are you with common Australian and British hallmarks? Mismarked items (as plate) are where the deals are to be had.
Never tried garage sales in predominantly white suburbs, but I imagine some good deals are to be found if you get in early.

Thanks for the tip. I actually brought my scales to the antique store, put the thing on the scale, then pulled up a spot calculator on my phone. I showed the lady the spot price and she immediately said "I'll do it for $50 instead of $70", I then said its not worth my time unless its $45 and she agreed. I am the haggle god and I have no foreskin.

Not familiar at all. The only thing I know is to make sure theres a .925 marking on the piece somewhere. How can I research hallmarks?

That's really nice, I mainly have to cope with the reddit forum because the LCS in my area is on the cheaper side but could be better.
I've managed to keep premiums down to 5-10%, practically spot for gold, but not for anything that looks as good as those bars.

Based scrapchad-in-the-making, keep at it and you'll soon discover what true cheapies are. I've found good deals at antique stores but thrift or 2nd hand shops, flea markets (boot sales?) and especially estate sales where you walk through a dead boomer's house buying up their possessions are far better. Dealers at antique stores usually "know what they got" so my best luck in the USA at antique shops has been from buying faintly marked stuff they overlooked or european pieces with weird hallmarks they didn't recognize. I dunno what the IRL (not online) estate auction scene is like in Australia but they can be very good too, especially when the silver isn't advertised.

Silvercollection.it which frenly anon >>54367998 shared is an invaluable resource, as well as https://www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks.html you should spend a while really digging through the websites and calibrating your eye to the marks you're likely to come across, probably mostly British, American, and domestic Australian-made silver.

IMO the face needs to be touched up. Right now he looks like that kid in The Goonies. Out of curiosity do you guys have a professional 3D artist making these or do you just find someone on fiver or a similar site? I might take a stab (hehe) at it if I can carve (hehe) some time out this weekend. I’ve never done coins but I do 3D art professionally
