If you had spent your time getting a real job and buying index funds maybe you would have actually gotten somewhere.

Signed, someone who did just that and is set to retire in less than two years at age 33.

It’s really not that hard. The problem is you’re all natural-born losers and you gambled it all away.

Have fun in your cubicle until age 70!

Have you ever tried working for a small business? It's actually rewarding. And if you pay attention, you learn how to build yours. And then you don't have to come to a Mongolian race mixing forum to shit on... whoever...? I'm learning to make money and I'm doing it in an exciting way along the way. In the first years we saved much less. Now we save about $300K per year. My wife was recruited into her job from an undergrad recruiting session with zero connection or way in. I got a master’s degree in an unrelated field and a CFA in my spare time, and got this job by reading the CEO’s book and reaching out to him to discuss getting into finance. Once again, zero connection. All hustle.

Arming rebels is profitable, we will keep printing borrowing and spending. Military spending is a cash cow and a large part of the US is government spending and things in support of it. There is no end to it. No ceiling to the debt. No limit to the printing. In the 90s a grocery cart full of shit was 20$ now it’s 200. In thirty years it will be 2000 or maybe 10,000. Africa isn't necessarily a money pit. There are plenty of functioning countries in Africa. Especially the eastern coast aside from Ethiopia/Sudan where decades of religious/tribal conflict persists. Kenya for example is very developed and is doing well aside from their politics being a shitshow of 47 tribes competing. Namibia is extremely safe, well developed (aside from the skelly coast) and is prospering. Rwanda might be the only place in Africa you can walk around at night and never fear being robbed in the capital. I am not talking about the countries themselves more so -- where did the growth go to? Since Covid debts have balloon'd and the cost of servicing them is astronomical and there isn't enough growth out there to deal with it.

With France and Israel, Britain had the sheer numbers and military power to order Egypt around. Their problem was a tug on a monetary leash.

Same deal with the Soviets. They backed down in the Cuban missile crisis, lost plenty of South American and African brushfire wars, and gave up on Afghanistan. Plenty big, plenty people using their currency. They even had plenty of oil like we do. But it was a monetary break that killed their union.

So, is 6% (peacetime, official) CPI with 120% debt-to-GDP and waning demographics the limit for the US? It's at the very least plausible.

Look at Lockheed and Raytheon stocks; at all time highs. War is very profitable. Not for the plebes necessarily but also yes; do you know how many retards the military employs? How many mouth breathers they have given training and credentials to? How many degrees they have paid for leading to people who would have been lucky to land a job working night stock at Walmart to get papers and resumes allowing them to land better jobs? Lifetime benefits, preferential loans on houses and cars. Lines of credit. I’ve read analysis that suggests 50% or more of US GDP is from government directly or indirectly and a large portion of that is the military and various spy / “national security” agencies. Do you have any idea how many TSA agents there are? Do you k ow how much those new scanners cost? The uniforms? The equipment? It’s all profit for someone and it’s all coming from your taxes or inflation (the hidden tax) to pay for it. There are lots or nice houses in Virginia and a whole lotta boats. Do you think Biden and Obama got their mansions from their government salaries? Lol

If war wasn’t profitable there wouldn’t be war.

I have never once in my life applied for any government assistance even though I have slept on the ground over 1500 nights. They do not even listen. The notes they put in my account, which I can see online, show that they do not really pay attention and just try to blow it off because the tests they have chosen to perform do not turn up whatever they expect. So, rather than try more/different tests, they just treat me like I am imagining things. I had no health care at all but got into this program for poor people. I am guessing that they do get a lot of addicts and such. I do not do any drugs at all, I just expected them to tell me that I was about to die but here I am 3 years later unchanged and unable to function normally. I cannot depend on the health care industry nor government at all so I am seeking to do what I can with what I have.

I'm talking about two separate imperial collapse events. The Suez Crisis was in the 50s and Germany didn't play a role (nor were there battalions of Ruskies under Nasser's command or anything). It was a militarily winnable fight for the Brits that was lost on the economics front.

Which is the most pollyanna metric to look at. And it would be comforting if we had our debt locked into 30 or 50 year bonds at the corresponding rates along with a balanced budget.

But if you take a look at what our inflation rate is, how our debt has an average maturity in the low single digits, what our fiscal situation is, and the current popular legitimacy of our Federal government, well, the objectively correct response is to shit your pants.

Otherwise, I usually just tell people about avoiding debt and women. You laugh, but I assure you that many, many, many men have an heroed for far less than I have been through. What happened to me during the Great Recession would have taken quite a number out. I survive. At each stage and circumstance I look at what resources I have and seek to make the best of them. Rather than go begging the government for food stamps I went and made things with my hands and sold them. They were not very good, not the work of an "artist", but I did my best with things from the craft supplies at Walmart and sold them for $5, $10, $20, $40 each. My whole point is that when you're looking at the economic realm, the collapse of reserve currencies or big empires, sometimes you get Napoleon at Waterloo but plenty of other times you get Yeltsin on the TV - a peaceful economic changeover. This happens when politicians get trapped with no good options.

>Get off the internet sometimes dude. People dont even know who the vice president is. Further more inflation helps the national debt because of increased tax revenue. But they do probably need to raise taxes anyway.
Here're your options: you raise taxes that kill the economy and piss people off. Or you go the inflation route but have to hike Social Security (due to COLA) as well as Medicare (since it's premised on the delivery of real medical care). You can then either hike defense spending (leaving you at square one) or cut it in real terms (leaving a gap for BRICS et al). You can also slash SS/Medicare/other Federal spending which, again, pisses people off. And they wonder why they're shoveling all this money at DC if Grandpa's starving, Grandma has a bum hip, and the highways are falling apart anyway.

Are your proposed tax hikes going to take place this year, with a credit crunch recession and Republican house holding a debt ceiling card? Or next year during an election year? Or in 2025 when inflation has whipsawed back up and we've already tacked on another 5 trillion in debt?

They're either going to make things worse by aggravating a recession, not politically possible, or be passed too late. Again: it's about DC running out of options.
