Anon, how are you a waiter and not in some form of management? Hospitality as an industry is struggling to fill management positions.

>that said if you are the waiter at the right restaurant you can make more than management

>> No.54350391

what made you think you needed to go to school to do ANYTHING in the restaurant industry? aside from CIA everything else is a joke and will probably land your application in the trash can because you might have a chip on your shoulder ~~~because you went to school~~~

Isn't Hospitality one of the few industries left where the most entry level stuff really does still have a pathway up into management if you play your cards properly?

I don't see the issue. You studied hospitality and now you're in hospitality. What were you gonna do, start managing this shit with no idea of what it's like to actually be in front of a Guest?

Should have went to Purdue. They literally place you in a nice resort in their management program.

Might as well do women studies.
What a fucking retard, """"management degrees"""""
Managers don't need degrees moron, they have close to 0 technical skills, you become a manager by having good social skills and networking you have none.

I highly doubt your life is over. Maybe this isn't the job you want, but you're not shackled to it.

I did the same not because of my choice but because of my country's retarded educational system. I graduated and was hired in a hotel as a waiter. I got a panic attack the second day I was there while washing some spoons, I was thinking "this can't be real, this is not happening, I fucked up". I just quited on the spot and basically became a hobo stealing food and clothes but since I was good looking with good social skills I had a really good time. At some point I figured that the hobo boem life must stop so I busted my ass and did everything I could to get into tech. I just turned 29 and I have been working in comfy tech position for 3 years now. My life has not been exactly good but it was a fun one

If you are in the US, and not a felon, there is still hope for you. Look at public school (child nutrition programs), hospital dining, prisons, etc. this is part of the hospitality industry, know as institutional food service. Decent pay, regular hours, and benefits. This is what you do.

Because they insist on years if not decades of experience even for a supervisor position let alone a managerial one.

just apply for a management position

It sounds like a fun degree, but it must be rough career-wise. There's not really an "entry-level" position to advance from, so you're either a wagie or a manager. And the capital requirements obviously make entrepreneurship prohibitively expensive.

I guess your best bet is to go into another field that will accept anyone with a bachelor's, or to find a more intensive but higher packing hospitality job and network like hell. I also honestly wouldn't blame you if you lied about having more years of experience doing grunt work in the industry so that you look more prepared to a managerial job.

It's absolutely worth it to get a management degree if that's the route you're pursuing. NEET's pretend that degrees don't matter. You know who does think that a degree matters? Human resources. The hiring manager. The guy who worked in your position and needed a degree to get it. Even in tech where people with experience don't need degrees, people routinely get one just because it's such a big checkbox to fill on any job application.
