As a certified copperchad with too much copper in various bullion forms the schizo mindset is basically that copper would exist like the third tier of the apocalyptic metals marketplace as it has throughout history. It’s cheap to stack and there are some really nice designs ranging from one oz rounds to one pound bars. The cost of these have also increased notably over the years with anons having bought a pound for 8$ now seeing the same bars for 32$. Yes, you are paying insane premiums on these pieces compared to the amount of base metal in them but it’s not a pile of possibly useful and likely useless copper wire; it’s shiny and measured and stamped 100% COPPER.

Luv me copper.

>> No.54279237

>>54279168
Bars usually exist for lower cost per oz but premiums have really neutralized that as bars and coins have gotten so close in cost. Coins have the benefit of being sold in one oz sections while bars force you to sell at 10 oz or kilogram blocks.

If we’re talking apocalyptic schizo theories; both do the job of being silver but coins still have that added value of being able to create smaller purchases.

Honestly, I buy bars when I need a break from stacking coins or rounds. Enough beautiful designs exist of 10 oz bars and above to keep me interested and while the lower cost isn’t that much it does make me feel better saving a few shekels. Oh, bars feel very nice, too. Just be ready for how small a 10 oz bar really is. It isn’t until you reach kilos that you get a nice meaty metallic loaf.

How are metalchads coping with paying these prices? It's fun seeing all the newcomers in these threads but I feel bad for them because they're just getting started. I could handle paying 21-22X FV for junk, but the new prices are abysmal. Who's still buying?

>> No.54279252

>>54279214
It’s been said pretty frequently here but the cheapest and most effective way to stack copper is to simply sort the copper pennies from your change. The market for copper bullion is rightfully small as you SHOULD be saving that money for gold and silver but I love the diversity, I love the metal, and it has legitimately grown in price over the last decade(s).

You’ll likely be stuck with an exclusively online market unless we’re trading metals for food after the bombs drop. My LCS almost laughed when I brought up copper and you have to see it from their view. 2$ a round means a microscopic premium compared to the money they can make on silver or gold.

Accumulating pennies has several drawbacks: one is, it's a slow process. Finding pre 1983 pennies requires a lot of seeking and sifting. The other drawback is, among the gigantic pile you need to accumulate, any buyer would have to satisfy himself that he's buying copper, not zinc. To do that, he'd have to check the dates on that pile - it's a daunting task. Third, in the US you open yourself to prosecution if you sell melted pennies as bullion. You would have to be ratted out, but it is what it is.

As for current price - it looks as though about $13/lb is going to be the best price you'll find for stamped bullion bars, in 10-lb sizes. They're not pretty, but they're not ugly wither, and stamped means it's easily clear what you're getting.

As a precious metal it's overblown, but for plumbing it's amazing. Modern housing is filled with plastic garbage pushfit. It is only good for temporary fixtures and horrendous when used for central heating as the joints expand and contract too much leading to leaks. My concern is that it look s like a generic bar. I'm not a fan of those - I prefer coin. Those come in kilos, too. I can only imagine a kilo kook would be relatively inexpensive at the source: Australia. These do cost more, but I am a firm believer that coins when bought during the mint runs are at their least expensive, and their value rises more rapdily than generic in two phases: when the mint stops making them, and when dealers run out of them. The biggest jump is right after the last dealer runs out of them. Then their value typically go up a little more rapidly than generic.

I love buffalos so much. Quick story, my great grandma used to give me buffalo nickels and a piece of candy when I would visit her, but they were worn so bad I couldn't read the date. I asked my grandpa why they were so worn, and he told me it was from ''hippies people pumping them into pinball machines'' lol.

I don't think it's guaranteed, just a slight possibility that might be worth looking into. Most evidence/reasoning points to things not being allowed to get so bad that people would be desperate for it in order to repair certain things. I also have the spare cash for it so that's why I started wondering. In a sense it's like having these food/water stores. Maybe I'll never need them and that'd be good considering the situations that would make them necessary. But if such scenarios do come about it'd be nice to have.

This bill will be getting reviewed soon, just a week after on Mar 17th a bill passed senate and house for the Governors signature to begin stock piling PMs in the state reserves in TN. Many other states have taken similar steps this month. America will crash softly depending on how much the state level governments can stack before its too late. Smells like balkanization. One should use charcoal for blacksmithing,
but it depends on the quality you want to achieve, and what you are doing. For hobbyist purposes a gas based furnace makes most sense.
If you're into stuff like folding and pattern-welding the wrong coal will introduce impurities.
e.g. Steel quality was worst in Europe at the beginning of the industrial revolution due to the used coal.
This is where the comparison to Japanese swords comes from, leading to a negative representation of European blades, the hardening tempering still produced superior functionality though and even anime tells you a Japanese military sword based on Western production methods is the way to go in a zombie apocalypse.
Going all out with forging including traditional steel production using a tatara or bloomery furnace (basically the same tech) like smith of pic related good charcoal is the only option.
Best place to read up on swords, and therfor historical blacksmithing and steel production on the web is

>>54283809
>While it’s turned out to have been a rather stupid idea in the long run (plus, the Industrial Revolution and it’s consequences have been a disaster for the human race) coal and what it enabled and made man do to get it are truly amazing!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5M1qtN62yk

In the long run it's actually great for the environment,
(unless any human influence is seen as bad by default)
the ecosystem was moving towards 150 ppm the range pant life creases to survive. A bit over 400ppm is back to almost ideal levels for grasses but still very far from the optimum of other plants.

I said that poorly, I am a krug maximalist and weiners are cool with their low cost and unique design. Luv krugs and they’re my number 1 metal waifu forever and always. I’m just bummed that the coins with royal designs that I tolerated because at least the queen looked ok have now been forever tarnished by this dopey nigger and his massive fucking ears.

If you buy modern ones with the radial lines they are hard to fake, there are fake ones without the lines however. The more technically complex the design, the less fakes there will be, generally.

I mentioned I got a penny box yesterday, this was the results:
21.5% copper by weight
12 Canadian
24 wheats
About 16 red “blazers”

Pretty good for me, I think I used to get about 10-15 wheats, and lots of Canadian here in New England. Not unusual to find a King George cent.

I wonder what percent coppers they find in Bongland?

I’m in Austria and while there’s a lot of grey areas, in general panning is legal (but not really lucrative).
The Swiss also have quite an active panning scene and I know of some stuff going on in Czechoslovakia and my equipment was bought at some polish Webshop, so I’d assume there’s also some possibilities.
Almost all European mountain ranges should have some gold and thus also all the rivers coming from them, though the fact that they’re mostly 99% damed up makes it a bit hard.
Where are you at?

> thats one really odd coal seam, what on earth formed that i wonder
Haven’t taken a very close look (had to use my time to search for gold, that bedrock contact seemed promising, but I couldn’t get a lot out without getting wet, might have to try again in summer) but I would guess a root or piece of wood. It’s very young stuff, late tertiary, I think. I see if I can dig up the geological map for that area later. But I thinks this outcrop wasn’t mapped. Was really hard to get down there.

> Cariboo Gold Fields in BC,
You doxxed yourself!
I was asking the anon that asked for panning in Europe. I think a year or two back, there was some guy posting here that tried the German rheinisches Schiefergebirge (don’t know the English term, essentially the “mountains” north of Frankfurt up to the Ruhr Coal area. Really amazing what areas are possibly gold bearing!

Yeah definitely was swampy. Even the large coal seams that got mined were apparently really swampy and shit quality.
I don’t have a thermometer with me, but when I was doing some work measurements last week way down stream in the south it was at 8 degrees. I would say a tad colder then, but having worked in 1 degree water, it was much warmer than that. Still no swimming temps though.
